Wherein I Make Battle Moon Wars Act 4 Playable: Stage 50 Glitch

August 17th, 2008

If you made it to stage 50 and the game suddenly stopped working, you’re not alone. Werk left some bad code in there which forces the game to endlessly wait for something that is apparently never going to happen. Replace your data9.dat with this one and things will work fine. Alright. Enough random acts of fixing parts of stages that I haven’t even gotten to myself yet. Off to Sleepyville. Population: Me.

C74 — Fuuka Taisen Impressions… Sort of…

August 17th, 2008

I’d have more to say, but it crashed when I was about halfway playing through story mode with Nao (obviously the best HiME) when it crashed, and now when I try to open the game, it blue screens my poor computer. It’s certainly full of more than its fair share of glitches, that’s for sure. Still what little I did get to play was pretty enjoyable, just about five or six years too late. It’s a great little fighter compared to… say… Queen of Hearts, and it’s a couple notches below EFZ, but it has its own little charm. I love Haruka’s cosplay attack, changing characters into other people their VA voiced, even if it does no damage. It’s worth it for the humiliation. Sibladeko’s apparently been having better luck getting it to run than I, and has been uploading all sorts of neat little easter egg videos in the game, such as the above, and Yukariko’s Alessi attack of turning the opponent into their child version.

C74 – Magical Battle Arena Redux Ver. Ruru, Nowel, and Naga

August 17th, 2008

No clue why some people are having issues installing the patch. Everything went completely dandy for me. If you’re curious about the move in the video above where Ruru just sort of cowers, it’s a melee counter, but she just looks sad when nobody attacks her. After playing through Ruru’s story mode to unlock Nowel, I have to say that the battle royale on the last stage was pretty amazing. Since friendly fire hurts you (which I learned the hard way when Nanoha Starlight Breaker’d a Gadget Drone my Sakura was fighting), I hung back and just watched all the lasers flying through the air. I’m pretty sure I saw a Kirara Nova Bomb the Fate clone before Nanoha shot straight down to finishit off. Of course, then final-boss-permanent Overdrive Nowel showed up and killed everybody but me in a single rain of death. Thank goodness for friendly fire after all.

C74 — Armed Seven Impressions

August 17th, 2008

I had ignored the trial before but I think this is the first time the full version has been released. I could be wrong though. Whatever. It’s like a field trip back to an arcade in the early 90s! And I’m perfectly fine with that. I don’t know what it is about this one… perhaps the fast pace, yet relatively easy difficulty that keeps me engaged without boring me, but I’m really having a ton of fun playing this. It really does have all the depth of an early 90s arcade game though. Hell, the sprites look like they were taken straight from Front Mission: Gun Hazard.

C74 — TWilight refrAIN Impressions

August 16th, 2008

I really liked this game’s predecessor, TWIlight INSanity, and so far, I really like TWAIN too. I’m not sure why it hates FRAPS though. As soon as I loaded it, the framerate plummetted, but it was fine so long as FRAPS wasn’t running. Whatever. I was all ready to praise it for feeling quite a bit more ‘new’ than Subterranean Animism, but then the stage E1 boss (Mimi) theme is a remix of one of the TWINS boss themes. Oh well, it still feels like they’re doing a lot more with this one than Zun is with the Touhou series as of late. The rather nice art is certainly a pleasant change of pace, and it certainly has one thing the Touhou series doesn’t… pretty boys in dresses. The style is definitely a lot more cutesy and less techno-crazy than TWINS, which I kind of miss, but this is still an extremely solid game that you should definitely check out.
