Comiket 73: Gleam of Force Trial

December 31st, 2007

I have a party to drink at go to this evening, so I’m trying to run through some of this stuff at record speed. Gleam of Force is first up, and my first two impressions are: "Why the hell would the player 1 controls be hbnm with zxc as the action buttons?" and "I wish my laptop was mighty enough to handle French Bread’s games." My first couple matches are that same kind of manic button mashing affair that I had with Glove on Fight, which is apparently the spiritual precursor to this since they play pretty similarly (and this is "GoF2" despite there not being a "Gleam of Force 1." The engines are also pretty similar, which is to say that they’re absurdly complex. I haven’t quite figured out how to block yet, but I do know how to slow time with my ballerina. How many other games can you say that for?

    Yeah, those default controls are rather retarded. I’m going to have to dig out a gamepad and give it another go, methinks – I couldn’t quite get my head around it, and having not played Glove On Fight probably doesn’t help.

    At least it plays full speed on my laptop, though ^^;

    I wonder the same, but I started to think that this is because is programed for a japanese keyboard instead of a US keyboard.

    Bah. I’ve played Glove on Fight and that didn’t help me one bit. :-P

  • DiGiKerot says:

    I thought the Japanese keyboard layout was a QWERTY variant, though? In any case, pretty much every other French Bread game I’ve played used a rather more sensible key selection.

    I’m presuming it’s more to do with attempting to give P1 and P2 usable controls, but to be honest I’d imagine the kind of person who’d play vs on this kind of game on a PC would have at least one external controller anyway…

    If anybody is interested in netplay I started a hamachi room.

    Mainly to meet up as some people dislike playing over hamachi.
