Little Witch Academia #12 — Akko is a Bitch, Part 11

March 26th, 2017

Don't worry, she'll pivot any week now. Aaaaany week now!

Impressions:

Things start here with Akko secretly practicing with Chariot, so apparently she just magically got quasi-competent off screen between episodes. Tremendously satisfying progression there. After that, they have a class project for raising… thingies… except that lasts for less than five minutes before it's dropped in its entirety and Akko accidentally shapeshifts into Diana. Her first instinct is to be a huge bitch to everybody since she can both get away with it and Diana will take the blame. Heroine material right here. Then, when found out and given a well deserved dressing down, she threw a temper tantrum and stormed off before learning the valuable lesson (for the umpteenth time) that she is indeed the chosen one and the super specialest. Boy, did she ever realize the error of her ways or what? Definitely or what.

So basically, another episode that seems cobbled together out of a bunch of different bits with no real relation to each other, as well as another chapter in the "We have absolutely no idea what we're doing with Diana or Akko. Oh god, please help us. We can't write characters for beans." It's especially galling because Akko is basically vindicated at the end. She sighs and goes "Man, Diana's awesome," and that's it. That's the lesson that she learned before the reassurance that she is in fact super special amazing through sheer dint of having that magical staff. She learned nothing, and is still basically acting like Snidely Whiplash. At least the creators seem to understand it when Sucy's being a bitch and frame it appropriately. Akko is just god's chosen daughter, no matter how much of a petty brat she is.

this series is actually pretty enjoyable if you watch it in the mind of akko being the villain, probably not what they were going for
