No Game, No Life #09 — Subtlety in Visual Imagery

June 4th, 2014

It’s symbolic because all the colors are goooooone.

Impressions:

And they added some tinny post-processing to the sound which I so do not have any patience to deal with with at 7 am. And just in case you didn’t get that there is no color or beauty in the world without him, he also appears with a Jesus halo. Very subtle. As if it was ever in any doubt before this episode that the entire world revolves around his penis after God him/herself came down from on high and told them that they were the bestest most specialist kids ever.

Which is all kind of weird since this was… well, I hesitate to call it a bottle episode, but I will anyway, with really no purpose but jamming in the antagonists from the first arc into the harem and could have easily come like… any time at all, or have just been skipped entirely since they’re about as relevant to current events as the vegetable people of No-Pants. It just had the melodrama cranked up to about 50 while the already lacking subtlety went down to -50. Someone also really needs to declare of moratorium in Japan on spontaneous psychic voyages, prophetic, epiphanic, flashbacky, all of them. And it was all for some pocket dimension magical elf go. Granted, go may be one of the least interesting games imaginable so thank you for showing as little as possible, but the game of “What’s going on?” “Allow me to explain!” every fifteen seconds isn’t any better either.

Next Episode:

Nada.

if not for shiro last move sora would lose his existence

  • Di Gi Kazune says:

All I cared was how inconsistent that chess set was.

And obviously someone was reading too much *monogatari while thinking of how to do this episode one night…

  • Sanjuro says:

She sounded like a comical cartoon plane when flying around her memories. That kind of lowered the melodrama tone. Unless it was unintentional.

  • FlameStrike says:

Eh it’s not subtle, but I thought it was effective. I wouldn’t be too hasty about calling this episode a bottle ep though. Sora went on and on about how he needed the last piece to beat the Werebeasts, so I’m assuming they’ll do something important in the coming game against them.(Spoilers: they will)

How much enjoyment one can get from this episode correlates to how much they like or can emphasize with the main characters.

  • ZakuAbumi says:

Ewww. I kinda ended last week’s episode with the thought of “Oh, so some kind of game made Sora disappear” and then it took them half an episode to figure out that, gasp, it was a game that made him disappear. Fun was had, just not on my side of things.

I kinda laughed at the “The girl was sent to an orphonage before she was one year old because of her superhuman intelligence.” line and all the ham-handed delivery from the audiovisual department. Who ever thought that was a good idea?

    Also,
    >go
    I don’t think that’s how go works.

    • AGear2Ax says:

That’s because they weren’t playing Go. They played Reversi/Othello :P

  • Yue says:

YEAH!! More bishoujo for Sora’s expanding Harem Kingdom! Rub them Jibril wings..

  • Yue says:

    Permission Approved!
