Wizard Barristers #05 — Moonwalking Barristers

February 9th, 2014

Sadly, the most interesting part didn’t come until the last seconds.

Impressions:

Extremely pedestrian episode and easily the weakest of the show so far, exemplified most by the montage in the middle of Ceci trying to do work while Kamakiri is either too perverted, lazy, or old to do anything. Even the case was boring and could have survived without having anything to do with magic. Fist fight in a bowling alley, then the guy is killed, but the killer was not the guy he just got into a fight with earlier! Attorney collapses, moonwalks off. I’m sure you think I’m joking about that last part, but I assure you that it was easily the highlight of the episode. Otherwise, it could have (and probably should have) taken place just as easily in non-wizard court.

They were probably trying to go for solving the mystery the old-fashioned way or the old cliche of the bumbling detective who’s secretly putting everything together thus giving the newbie who thought they were daft a new appreciation of them, and/or the old ways, but it was just too boring. It lacked both the comedy of the first part and the brilliant insight of the second. I’m pretty sure the staff realized how lame this episode was too as they skipped even the obligatory groping/fanservice for the frog eating her food, which isn’t even a metaphor. It’s hard to think anybody really cared about what went into the episode.

Next Episode:

World conquest.

Dear lord, I wonder if the next episode took some inspiration from Zveda.

After the clusterfuck from last week, I’m actually happy that we get a more grounded episode.
