Long Annoying Title #02 — Banana Sucking

October 16th, 2013

At least the puns made me groan.

Impressions:

Maybe this is why they had the long montage last week, Diomedea knew that its artists couldn’t be trusted. Yeesh. There are in-between frames and there are in-between frames. It’s not even like there was a lot of movement to make that stuff easily overlooked. People’s faces just had an unfortunate tendency to turn into pudding when they were doing such difficult to animate things, like looking to the right. Or blinking. I’m not a great fan of the new girl either, and not just because they keep drawing the close-ups of her face in different ways every time or she comes from the long long line of braindead annoying mostly pink-haired banana-obsessed morons. She just embodies too well that ‘gag’ Japan seems to so love of pointing out a cliche, explaining the cliche, and saying "We’re in on it!" all while just plain wallowing in it.

Anyway, production swan dive aside, it got even more obviously arbitrary than it already was, now getting missions from on high to do random crap, because apparently we hadn’t taken "God says do something random" far enough yet. I don’t even know why they didn’t just go with making it a choice between do that or… I don’t know, "spend the rest of your life on fire." But of course, since this is a light novel, we need to take a hard left into melodrama at the end based on it. The whole thing was also just a lot less zany over all I guess. Maybe it’s because I had a better idea of what to expect this episode, maybe it’s because the protagonist spent a third of it dialing into his most obnoxious of light novel protagonist genes by questioning and bitching about everything no matter how many breasts were being enthusiastically rubbed against him, maybe it’s because the info dumps this week were all that much more boring. Maybe it was just the very stupid puns.

I don’t know about you but I lost it when god phoned. The picture made it golden. Also alternative ending sequences are pretty funny.

I’d like to think that there will be no melodrama here even though the ending of the episode makes it seem that way.

So…no mention of the protagonist turning into a female?
