The UNLIMITED #06 — The Budget Doldrums

This season is having some collective budget issues.

Impressions:

The show continues to reel from apparently exhausting its budget in episode 4 resulting in another episode that was about 90% talking heads. Even while Kaoru and Kyosuke were ‘fighting,’ the talking heads didn’t stop. They just added some ind effects and visual slop. Actually slamming her into a few buildings lasted all of about 5 seconds. Also thanks to his magic new super ultra mega esper instantly get out of everything powers, which I also continue to despise.

The whole thing was also not at all helped by being primarily focused on Andy and the new angsty Kyosuke either. Andy bores me to tears in every way, and I still miss the old, more unhinged Kyosuke that mostly wandered around with a squirrel on his head, sexually harassing Minamoto. Oh yeah, and apparently we’re also in for a multiple episode flashback arc for the next couple weeks.

    I’m kind of hoping Andy gets a power upgrade and mops the floor with Kyousuke. Normally, I don’t like moles who sell out their friends, but when their friends commit mass murder it’s a little harder to blame the guy.

    Even though this flashback is pretty hamfisted in, the next episode is actually based on the original manga.

    Something this spinoff hasn’t been doing up to this point.
