Parttime Opera Milky Holmes #14 — Suddenly, A Whale

January 12th, 2012

I’d make a Hitchiker’s Guide joke, but there weren’t any petunias.

Impressions:

A fairly mediocre episode as far as Milky Holmes is concerned. They can’t all be winners. It had a few moments, like the whale out of nowhere frustrating their quest to be fed, or devouring their fallen companion at the start, but this certainly lacked… and I am aware of how strange it is to say this… the usual direction for a Milky Holmes episode. Whle always surreal, the episodes at least generally had a central focus with the comedy being the vehicle to move things along. This one… not so much. This was disturbingly closer to a Guilty Crown episode’s flow, where things happen with little to no connection to what happened before and are then forgotten moments later.

It sort of flirted with Nero learning a valuable lesson about being a complete slacker while everybody else was off working their own parttime jobs, but that lasted only maybe 60 seconds total. I guess it was meant to reintroduce the whole Toys thing since pretty much all of them used their powers this week, mostly to little useful effect. The thieves also just went in a giant circle of breaking out and then getting thrown back into jail in what seemed like a vignette designed to just make the epiosde slightly longer. At least it looks like they have a bigger role next week.

What is it with comedies and whales appearing out of nowhere?
