Fate/Zero #08 — Suddenly… Flashback!
November 19th, 2011
Who needs cohesion?
Impressions:
This is probably about as good as the show’s going to get, so I guess it’s worth at least celebrating noting that. It still spent minutes on end in magical technobabble that should have been done in seconds (or not existed at all), abused the ugly CG as a punching dummy for no good reason, two out of the three ‘fights’ consisted of people standing still while shooting at and/or shooting CG blobs with the third having a CG bird flying around, and had a lengthy flashback explaining the magic gun before showing how magic it is, so… you know… there’s room for improvement. Particularly the flashback. He shoots his magic gun, smirks, then it cuts back to Saber and Lancer after their aborted excuse for a fight. Then, without any setup or transition, we’re suddenly in the past explaining how the gun is magic. Is this being storyboarded by a team of gerbils?
But hey, like I said, this was probably the most enjoyable episode to date. Even the music was better than usual, particularly Iri’s scene. The action remains lacklustre at best but at least there was a hell of a lot more of it here than any other episode and they only narrated what they were seeing for twice as long as they should have instead of five times. And they didn’t even have to use Iskander to do it! It’s a bloody Thanksgiving miracle.

The Light Novel does the same thing, blame urobochi.
