Spinning Penguindrum #08 — Wild Wild West

September 1st, 2011

Aaaand my patience for this show is running very very thin.

Impressions:

You know how I was remarking that everything in this show just keeps getting stretched out and out except for primarily cliffhangers? You know what then leaves a really goddamned bad taste in my mouth? When your cliffhanger is immediately just pissed on with a "Ha ha, Tabuki was never even there in the first place." Screw you, Penguindrum. This is some goddamned lowest level harem padding BS nonsense. And then Ringo starts losing it even more, but instead of following that scene with something that could drive the point home, she instead devolves into a wacky wild west shootout. It’s kind of like if one of Hamlet’s soliloquys ended with Polonius running in to hit him with a cream pie. Ringo is simply impossible to take seriously, absolutely cannot carry the show on her own, and the show itself has completely abandoned any sense of purpose or direction.

So let’s pick things up 18 minutes in, where we are basically exactly where last week left off. Ringo’s straddling Tabuki again, same as before, but this time for really reals. Then she’s interrupted so she just up and leaves, explains her entire diabolical plans for the sake of reviewing the entire plot of the last 7 episodes, drops her diary into traffic, and Shouma gets hit by a car. Given the show so far and how every single other cliffhanger has meant absolutely bloody nothing, I look forward to learning next week that he has a sprained wrist and needs a couple band-aids. Either that or he’ll get up, stumble around for 20 minutes, then get hit by a truck. Or maybe it’ll just start with ten straight minutes of Ringo pretending to be a train. Choo choo. I wouldn’t put it past them at this point.

I had high hopes for this show but then Ringo appeared and didn’t leave 2 episodes ago like she should had. Two more episodes then I’m dropping this crap if Ringo’s screentime hasn’t been reduced to 4 minutes or if she hasn’t decided to help Shoma (and Himari) now and rape Tabuki later.

    > Ha ha, Tabuki was never even there in the first place.

The damage done by the Mario franchise has scarred us all, many times over.

  • Yyi says:

The only consolation I got from this episode is that there wasn’t another recycled ‘Survival Strategy’ scene when Himari appeared.

And this show is seriously lacking the FABULOUS MAX it deserves!
