C80: Grief Syndrome Impressions

August 13th, 2011

I expected much better from you, Tasofro.

I can’t say I’m impressed. The game’s slow, characters move sluggishly, and having one to two enemies to a level makes it grow old quickly. Characters only have about 5-6 moves each, but there’s rarely any reason to use anything except the highest damaging one, which isn’t even always the Super. Plus the character balance is completely FUBAR. Kyouko and Madoka literally do twice as much damage was the other three with their charged attacks. Hell, Kyouko and Sayaka’s [B] attacks are basically identical (forward rush), except Kyouko’s travels further, covers much more space vertically, does almost three times as much damage, and can’t be canceled into another attack (which is only useful for mobility anyway). Hit detection is also a little… wonky sometimes, especially with bosses. You’d think the teethy side would deal damage, but apparently getting nudged by their tail as they’re getting up causes just as much damage. Maybe it’d be better with multiplayer for more chaos and the social aspect, but the single player is slow and extremely repetitive. It doesn’t hold a candle at all to similar games like Crescent Pale Mist.

  • Nightshadow2239 says:

Sounds disappointing since I was looking forward to this game. They will probably introduce some patches after some feedback though.

  • Pronas says:

I liked it, but Aroduc is right, Madoka is basically the best character and even then i was just spamming her B attack. They should REALLY have a netplay for this game because there’s basically no replay value if you’re on your own.

  • Another thing is that the music is monotonous. Jeeze!

    • U.Renko says:

      it had music?

but to be fair it I enjoyed the scenaries and enemies. Accurate to the anime.
but then again that`s the least to expect…

  • Kusano says:

Had to bust out the OST.

  • Sukali says:

I cant seems to make it save my data everytime i exit the game i have to start from beginning again…anyone know how to fix that? X_X

    • S_ says:

It’s supposed to be like that. The game is brief and only saves your highest hit score and time it takes to defeat Walpurgis once you’ve completed the game.

  • Metaler says:

I personally think this game’s awesome. It’s simple, and very addictive. It’s a good way to pass the time. Though I have to admit it must be better when you’re playing with other people. Hopefully they’ll release a netplay patch sometime.

If we’re talking solo play, the melee characters are definitely a lot better than madoka, don’t know what you on about.
