Under The Innocent Sky #01 — SUGAR SUGAR SUGAR

April 3rd, 2011

Uh. This was an experience.

Edit: Ugh. How did I turn Innocent into Empty? The show… it does things to your mind.

Impressions:

I’m really not sure what to make of this. There are so so so many characters and it spends barely even a moment’s focus on most of them… and half of the time, that focus is only long enough for them to say one line and then show a panty shot or a naked shot of their breasts bouncing. The initial segment in particular of an entire herd of bouncy girls mugging some kid to press their breasts against him was… unfortunate? It got a lot better after that, but every other shot still seemed to be coming from in-between some random girl’s thighs and panties figured heavily into just about everything. The character skipping also got particularly bad at the end when it just showed a montage naming about 10 different characters in turn with a brief pan-over. I literally have no idea what that was trying to do.

I will say that the show looks quite good visually and has a lot of energy. The main issue is that I have absolutely no idea what it’s doing with it, so it’s kind of like getting a four year old hopped up on Red Bull and Vodka and then telling him to spin in a circle. Not that I’ve ever done that. At least… more than once. But it’s the same kind of chaos. Well, it also veers towards really pretentious at times, which doesn’t fit its magnetic draw to T&A in the slightest. The middle segment in the cafe was probably the most amusing of the lot, which was probably also helped since it had the most focus and the characters all had more than 30 seconds of screen time.

So, uh… yeah. I have no idea. Aside from being unable to go 30 seconds without a panty shot, the visual direction isn’t bad, but the story direction and writing is literally all over the place in not a particularly good way. It’s built as much more of a comedy than I expected, but instead of the characters and situation having ADHD ala Milky Holmes, it’s the staff. It might be able to carry itself on sheer energy alone, but there are just as many remarkably godawful parts that made my eyes roll back far enough in my head to see the aneurysm building as there were clever parts. I really don’t even know what else to say about it. I don’t even want to think about the ED (OP?) either. That makes even less sense.

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU, SHOW?

At this point I’m guessing just inside jokes for those who played the VN lol. The Keep censors make me lol. Now that I know what this show actually is, thank you for suffering it for me /returns to cleaning house

  • The Keep censors make me lol too.

  • rozen123 says:

So much uncensored pantsu! What is this madness?! xD

  • Aex says:

So there are three main guys, each has their own harem, the scenes fly so fast they make airplanes envious, way too many characters, and random nudity/underwear for no apparent reason…? Not to even touch on whatever that thing at the end was!

The hell is going on this season?!

  • Jack says:

“Wings”? Is that the correct YouTube clip for this show? Haven’t viewed the show yet…just wondered.

/Edit…maybe it is…that doesn’t make any sense considering the screen caps. Hmm…

  • Ice says:

This ep appears to be almost entirely made up. Good start.

  • jingoi says:

Is there a broadcast without the censors or a uncensored dvd release?

  • Mesousa says:

The “Keep out” thing is a reference to Kampfer, guys.

    • Aroduc says:

…What? It’s a ‘reference’ to police tape. It’s been used in random things for ages. Galaxy Angel 2 had it plastered all over its OP years before Kampfer touched it.

  • Wilfriback says:

Is that Shin from Gundam Seed?

  • Moogy says:

As a fan of the game, this is actually very fun. Can’t really recommend it to people who haven’t played the game, though.

  • chad001 says:

A lot of the shows you says are too random, I still more or less get. But when even I have to go wiki-surfing 5 minutes into the video, screaming: “WHAT IS THIS HOW ABOUT?!?! I DON’T GET IT!”, you know there’s an issue…

  • Ice says:

Oh, it’s actually not entirely made up… This is a pretty big surprise.

  • Burnout says:

    Apparently,
the main character has severe MPD thanks to childhood trauma. So he’s all the guys, and I mean all of them, in the ED, which is through the filter of his insanity.
At least, I think so.

you all are tacking the show too serious….try to enjoy it for a bit….
don’t complain that there are too many characters
don’t complain that it switches too fast

    CAN’T YOU SEE
it’s only begining so OF COURSE you don’t understand it yet
and also you don’t want to see the most important thing…this show is a parody…it parodies the visual novel, character stereotypes and the story that we find in anime/manga/VN lately…try to enjoy a show for what it is not for what you want from it -_-

  • The Phantom says:

The fanserivce is unacceptable, the focus was bizarre, and what the hell this was about again? Prob watching second episode b4 dropping perhaps things may improve.

  • IC says:

    Derp, something dodged the censors.
