Thanks to Mr Peckerston for the gameplay vid.
RefRain is a work of art. Aside from the exceedingly bland enemy design and the fact that it’s tough as nails, the shot patterns are just what I expected from the TWilight INSanity Samidare group. The game engine is a more scaled back and ‘pure’ SHMUP. The only weapons you have are a slightly spread shot and a powerful laser. You do have some indestructable options that will aim their shots at whatever you hit with the laser, but in either firing mode, you’re still doing nil damage unless you’re directly beneath the enemy. Your ‘bombs’ are just big laser shots that erase any bullets they hit plus you can blow many at once for the normal screen clearing business.
Now I just need to acquire a computer that can run this without randomly slowing down when the screen gets crowded. Recording is unfortunately right out.

I love this game! I didn’t realise this game had anything to do with TWINSanity though, I thought it was just by RebRank (creators of Samidare and (possibly) ex-Amusement Makers staff). Anyway, there are a few more ‘bombs’/supers than the powerful laser; using up to 4 supers straight after each other unleashes different attacks (the aforementioned powerful shot, a bunch of missiles, some targetted lasers and a huge DBZ-esque bullet-cancelling shot), and there’s also your ‘concept reactor’ bomb that works like a typical shmup bomb. I tried to show most off this stuff in my youtube playthrough, but most of it is lost in the compression :P
