Love Lab #03 — The Drama Box

July 18th, 2013

Yeah. That’s what this series needed. A healthy injection of melodrama out of nowhere.

Impressions:

…Maybe I shouldn’t have taken a harder look. It did help solidify in my mind that yes, indeed, it is the characters that are killing this for me. Maki’s about the only one that I find amusing or likeable in the slightest, and the last two episodes have seemed to do their damnedest to minimalize her, or in this episode, turn her dramatic for the most part instead of a joke, while sending the glasses out to the front. Yuiko might work if she was paired against something other than that boring glasses bit of nonsense, but then again, going right back to the inescapable Yuruyuri comparisons, she’s no Ayano and the rivalry/lesbian attraction here is just so completely half-assed that I can’t see any appeal there either.

So feh, says I. I suppose it was better than the second episode, just for having slightly less of the terrible pair of glasses girls, but the show’s not particularly funny nor are the characters very likeable. The relatively low production values aren’t much help either, as long as I’m heaping things on. For as much as they like the spazzing out as a punchline, it’s only barely a step above the splash screen and gong approach which I have found especially obnoxious in recent weeks.

Next Episode:

If you’re reading this, then I’ve forgotten to change the template.
