Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere #12 — Dirty Pillows

December 17th, 2011

Yes, Kimi. Those are very dirty pillows.

Impressions:

I guess this is where they got the budget for the last couple episodes from. Much of this was Horizon and Toori standing stock still, talking to each other. As usual lately, the episode didn’t really kick in until about halfway through. The rest of Muneshige and Futayo’s fight was fine, but still far too brief. It was also a little amusing/silly to have the pope and his entire army watching Toori and Horizon talk from about a hundred feet away, only occasionally yelling at them. Shouldn’t he at least be throwing rocks or something?

It was one of the better talky episodes though, mainly because it was (finally) well focused on Toori and the dialogue was a good deal more clever than I’m used to from anime… which is to say it possed about the metaphorical and literary level of your average Def Leppard song. The music was really nice too, particuarly in the second half, but P-01S/Horizon hasn’t had anywhere near enough focus actually showing the reasons for ‘rejecting’ him for this to really have had the impact or meaning that they were clearly going for. If we had seen her and Toori interacting previously, it would have at least provided a contrast and… again… shown that what he’s done and his attitude has made her believe that she can change and given the back and forth about what an automaton believes and what she believes a little more oomph. I don’t even want to talk about Toori accidentally poking her breast and getting sucked into a flashback of her death. Why, Sunrise? Why?

I just hated the first episode so I stopped watching. It was very bad. So this show does deliver in the end?
