Magical Battle Academy: Rayearth

June 19th, 2010

Thanks to SkyReed for pointing this out to me. It looks like MBA’s getting another character upgrade in the coming months in the form of the three Rayearth knights. They’re really dedicated to these extra-classique characters. All this while they’re also working on some kind of crazy-ass Touhou thing too. It probably also bears mentioning that their spinoff group released Elemental Battle Academy at the start of May, but it was so buggy on its initial release that I gave it a pass after about 30 minutes of abject frustration. I understand it’s patched and much more stable nowadays, but they’re supposedly working on some kind of major update for the upcoming summer Comiket, so I was just going to give it a go then.

Touhou 12.5 — Double Spoiler

March 2nd, 2010

In case you hadn’t caught the news, the next Touhou game is going to be essentially a sequel to Shoot the Bullet called Double Spoiler. Is Zun trying to port this series to the DS or something? Touhou DS… terrifying. Well, I can’t really care too much since I really wasn’t a fan of the first STB, but c’est la vie.

C77 – A Certain Railgun’s Panties Trial

December 31st, 2009

The first thing I did when I saw that Werk was using the same format for this as BMW was open the files with the same tools, and be happy that they still work. Then I poked around for something to translate so that I could set some kind of record. Once that disappointing quest was over, I actually tried playing the ‘game.’ Well… it ain’t no Megamari nor RKS. Maybe when the full version’s out, I can evolve to Super Translator IV.

And yes, it does run a lot smoother than that when I’m not forcing my laptop to record at the same time.

Gensoukyou’s Mysterious Village

December 19th, 2009

I think I’ll just start going through all my assorted shelved doujin news a little bit at a time to stretch it out instead of just one big C77 post. It’ll give me something (else) to do over the break to break up the tedium of my family slowly driving me crazy. Anyway, first up is one of the games I’m most looking forward to for the upcoming Comiket, a rougelike from Aquastyle. It’s interesting that Aquastyle would make a game like this instead of an SRW styled game given all their previous work, but I like rougelikes too, so I’m not complaining. Touhou’s certainly already a series filled with enough player death anyway. What’s a few thousand more lives lost?

Big Bang Beat 2 Announced

November 14th, 2009

OH HEY, GUYS. COMIKET 77 SEASON ALREADY!?

In hindsight, I really should have made the rounds for the doujin news back when I saw the first announcement. Too late for that now, I guess! Anyway, Frontier Aja’s announced the sequel to Big Bang Beat, based on AliceSoft’s rather excellent SRPG Big Bang Age. Aside from big baddie Kamui, they’re also adding the most delicious Erika, and Kinako, both from the School chapter. I always felt bad passing up Erika. She was so strong through the first half of the game and such a fun character, but two good characters (Kendo and Kyuudo) trump one great one. Poor Erika. I have no pity for Kinako though. She was pathetic and weak while Burai was a beast.

Magical Battle Arena — Complete Form

November 13th, 2009

Leaving aside the question of "What exactly does ‘Complete Form’ mean?" Looks like MBA’s getting another expansion for winter Comiket, adding StrikerS era Fate as well as a number of gameplay tweaks and modifications for netplay. Busy day for doujin game news. Although strangely, it appears that the MBA devs have split into two groups. One is still working on this, while the other is working on Elemental Battle Academy… which looks the same as MBA, just with all original characters.

A Certain Railgun’s Panties

November 13th, 2009

Thanks, Werk. After Battle Moon Wars, I knew you had ‘great’ things in you. At least it’s an action game so won’t require a translation. I’m off the hook. Whew.
Mikoto doesn’t even wear panties though… what does she care?
