IkkiTousen – Great Guardians #06 — The Basics!

You tell her, Ton-chan!

Impressions:

Let’s face it, after an episode where they had to team up to fight a giant shark, anything is better. It looks like our plot is finally starting to kick in at long last as Ryofu is absolutely up to something. You don’t leave an ex-villain alone with a witch and someone with mindcrush abilities and expect nothing to happen. Then she wakes up and is cheerful and happy and flirting with Ryomou. The preview for next week is full of her draping herself all over Ryuubi (and licking various foods off of Ryuubi too for that matter), so even if she’s not quite evil yet, she’s definitely being aggressively bisexual again. My bets are that she’s going to be trying to cause problems through Kann-u’s jealousy before sneak attacking all of them. Go evil Ryofu!

I’ll admit, a fair amount of the Kakouton and Myosai stuff seemed a bit shoehorned in, but at least we got a decent fight out of it. I wouldn’t be shocked if we didn’t see either of them for the rest of the series though. Sousou and Kyoshou in general just have absolutely nothing to do with anything going on and we’re halfway through the series. At least Kakouton has his memory back now. One amnesiatic character was bad enough. I did really like all the nods to the past series too, especially Toutaku’s watermelon garden. He really was one crazy SOB with those watermelons.

Ryofu finally being back to at least being somewhat insidious has me all happy and frisky though. I’d prefer if she beat up the other girls, but I suppose sexing them up is a good second place. I still have absolutely no idea what Sonken is doing in this show either. Every time anything happens, she’s either a hostage or just disappears for awhile and reappears to deliver the show’s moral lesson and make lunch. Since when did IkkiTousen need a babysitter? Since when did it even want one?

The Basics of Fighting

Ryofu gets dressed and heads out, leaving a note for Ryomou as she goes.

Later, in her trendy sports bra, Ryomou finds the message as her doorbell rings. It’s Hakufu and Sonken. They’re here to ‘play’ with Ryofu and Ryomou… but Ryomou hands over the note to Sonken. Ryofu needs to go find herself, so she left.

She rides on a bus and comes to a stop where Kakouton is waiting. He gets on the bus, and trips as it starts moving again. Ryofu asks him if he’s okay, but notices the magatama earring.

Hakufu’s a bit flustered by Ryofu running off. Ryomou thinks that Ryofu will be okay, and is sick of talking about it. She leaves the two to go to the bathroom, wondering where Ryofu went. Hakufu throws open the room to the toilet, catching Ryomou in the act of taking a crap really being concerned over Ryofu after all.

Ryomou uppercuts Hakufu out of the bathroom.

Now sporting a black eye, Hakufu argues with Ryomou about going to search for Ryofu. It’s not much of an argument and Ryomou loses her temper and smacks Hakufu around some more.

Kakouton looks at his earring. He doesn’t seem to remember being a toushi, and realizes that Ryofu might be one too. She shows him her earring. He asks what being a toushi is all about. She doesn’t know and admits that she lost her memory. Kakouton grabs her and tells her that he’s the same, he’s also lost his memory. He introduces himself, and she responds in kind.

Finally kicked out of the apartment, Hakufu and Sonken wonder about where Ryofu may have gone. Sonken remembers something that Koukin said about Ryofu’s school uniform. Hakufu decides to go to the school, Rakuyou… despite having no clue where it is.

Ryofu and Kakouton are walking to Rakuyou at this point. Kakouton wonders aloud about Rakuyou, but Ryofu doesn’t have any answers. He just senses that there’s something important he’s looking for. Ryofu admits that she’s jealous of that. She doesn’t remember anything.

Ryomou stares at a picture of Saji with Ryofu.

Sonken and Hakufu head out. Ryomou joins them. Hakufu tries to glomp, but gets the hand. Ryomou does say that ever after Toutaku was defeated, Rakuyou was abandoned. There shouldn’t be anything there anymore.

At the destroyed school, Ryofu and Kakouton head past the defaced school sign and head further in. Kakouton declares that he’ll accompany her.

From one of the buildings, Saji watches them. The fortune teller admits that he was right, they did come here.

Kakouton and Ryofu look through all the ruined buildings, and even Toutaku’s watermelon patch, but Ryofu can’t remember anything. This place disturbs her, but no specific memories. Kakouton goes to comfort her, but Saji interrupts, saying that he’ll tell her.

Saji gets a little exhasperated by Ryofu addressing him as ‘anata’. He tells her that he knows everything about her. She was his girlfriend after all. Ryofu remembers him coming up to her, humming that strange song.

Kakouton notices that Saji’s ear is bare and demands to know whether he’s a toushi. Saji asks so what if he’s not? There’s someone else here for Kakouton.

It’s Myosai. Kakouton turns to her. She announces his name and school. Kakouton doesn’t remember that, but asks if it’s the truth.

Saji takes advantage and makes a move on Ryofu, telling her they should go now. Ryofu wants to know if she was really his lover, which he affirms. He asks her if they remember all the fun they had, and lets her know exactly how Ryomou really felt about her. Ryofu is so stunned that she passes out in Saji’s arms (or could have been his mindcrush powers I suppose).

Kakouton’s annoyed and demands to know who the girl is. Saji introduces her. She says they should go together. Saji says that they followed the same man, Sousou Motoku and turns to leave with Ryofu in his arms. Kakouton tries to follow, but Myosai snares his leg with her rope. She’ll drag him back to Kyoshou. He tries to shout defiance, but the weight at the end of the ball slams into his stomach.

Kakouton declares her an enemy, so she throws the weight at him. At the last second, Hakufu catches it and yells that using a weapon like that is unfair. Kakouton remembers in his past someone saying something like that. He asks Hakufu who she is. She yells at Ton-chan for always calling her stupid but then forgetting who she is. He remembers calling a girl stupid for having her name written on her magatama and repeats her name.

He grabs her and tells her that he forgot, but she’s the first thing he remembered. She really is stupid. Hakufu pouts and says that she won’t be his friend. He smiles and makes peace with her as Ryomou and Sonken run up.

Saji greets them from the window, but walks further inside before they can react. Ryomou gives chase, but Myosai blocks the path of the others. Kakouton winces in pain as he and Hakufu take off into the forest, leaving Sonken behind. Myosai chases after them.

Inside the building Saji walks with Ryofu. The fortune teller stops him.

Hakufu thinks they lost Myosai, but suddenly hears her kick off a tree as she attacks. Hakufu flies out of the debris as Myosai relentlessly attacks her. Hakufu’s annoyed at the attack because she’ll be punished for ruining her school uniform as she dodges all Myosai’s attacks (though just barely). Kakouton grabs Myosai’s arm, but she hiptosses him into the ground and then kicks him away.

Hakufu attacks this time and the two kick at eachother with immense force as Kakouton watches on, shocked. The two seperate and Hakufu yells at Kakouton to leave it to her. He demands that she stop. Being saved by a girl is unacceptable. He tells Myosai to bring it on.

Ryomou finds Ryofu unconscious. Ryofu wakes up as Ryomou gets to her. Mou-chan asks where Saji got to, but Ryofu’s clueless as usual. She asks Ryomou what happened here. Ryomou asks if she really doesn’t know, and Ryofu says with a smile "not at all."

The fight’s going poorly for Kakouton. He’s getting beaten to a pulp. Even Myosai thinks it strange. Kakouton’s still got the fighter spirit though. He throws aside his bag of stuff and his ‘fighter arena repair kit’ falls out.

Hakufu points it out to him and he looks at it, remembering yelling at other people that they need to respect the fighting arena, it’s their dojo etc. Crazy crazy Kakouton.

Myosai’s not one for flashbacks and keeps beating him through it. She pins him against the wall and goes for the finishing blow, but his memory’s mostly back now and he evades her punch and swaps their positions, declaring that these are the basics as he punches the wall next to Myosai’s face, destroying it completely.

He starts to talk to Myosai, telling her to wait for Sousou, but she’s disappeared. As Hakufu walks over, he starts ranting and fixing up the wall.

It’s repaired in no time at all and Hakufu wonders who the real idiot is.

Ryofu and Ryomou are back too, along with Sonken. Kakouton excuses himself to continue his search for Sousou, but Sonken busts out the Sun Tzu as an invitation for him to join them for lunch.

After they eat, Hakufu tells Sonken that Kakouton is one of Goei’s… playthings.

Back at home, Goei sneezes from the mention. She tells Koukin that some handsome man must be talking about her.

Ryofu is strangely happy as she eats. She giggles as she picks rice off of Ryomou’s face and eats it.
