Kanokon #12 — At Last, This International Nightmare Ends

Spatula++

Impressions:

This is how Kanokon ends? Chizuru gets sad because Kouta won’t say that he likes her, then he gets up the courage to say it and things return to normal. Well, I suppose I shouldn’t be overly surprised and I did get a chuckle out of trying to name all of Tayura’s dances. The easy ones were HachiGuu, Shin-chan, and the various Michael Jackson moves. Otherwise though, a very boring ending all around.

At least there was another spatula.

Brief brief brief final thoughts at the bottom.

Final Thoughts:

It’s rare that a show makes me long for the subtle nuances of storytelling and comedy that… say… Nagasarete Airantou or even Ninomiya possessed, but Kanokon certainly succeeded there. In fact, I almost don’t regret watching it because I think I’ll now appreciate other comedies all the more. It really was nothing more than watching a train wreck in motion for day one, and after 3 months of watching it burn, it got rather old. That the raws drifted in appearance from late Friday night when I had nothing to do to Saturday, which already has three shows I’d much rather watch and two to cover certainly didn’t help matters either.

It’s not horrendously awful if you accept it as a vapid mindless T&A barrage, but at the same time, I’d still recommend shows like Girls Bravo, Umisho or hell, even Debby Does Dallas over it. I suppose if you’re looking to add to the spatula count though, this is probably the best show out there this season… And that’s the highest praise that I’m willing to give it.

    Meh, back to To-Love-Ru….

I saw the way you looked at that spatula…..sicko.

  • Who tied up the wolf girl? Is that yet another fetish?

Was there any attempt at all to explain just why it is that FoxGirl and WolfGirl are trying to get into this kid’s pants? I know there are hints that he may be a spirit and not know it, but did they ever really make it clear?

  • Aroduc says:

Chizuru tied her up for some alone time. And no, this episode had absolutely nothing in terms of a plot or the like. I’m pretty sure Nozomu and Chizuru just liked him because he ‘smelled nice.’ The stink of failure and low expectations probably.

I’m glad that this shit is finally over.-

  • At least Ninomiya-kun, for all its faults, did try to tell a story and did try to offer justification for its characters’ behavior and motivation.

So, think that Sekirei will be even more braindead than this one was?

  • Aroduc says:

Nah. I expect good things from Sekirei. 7Arcs has yet to make a show that I didn’t really like.

    (to den beste)
overall, I ‘d say that if you’re really concerned with the plot, the manga or the light novels are probably a better choice, although the manga has only been translated up to the first chapter of volume 2(as far as I’m aware), which is only up to the point of kouta’s first encounter with omi, mio, and kumada. adaptation decay is a killer, and kanokon’s not immune to it.
the light novels got liscensed in the US, although I don’t remember which company did it and I don’t feel like checking wikipedia right now.

I can’t talk much for the wolfloli(not a fan of “irritating robo-loli” archtypes, so I try to ignore her), but it seems for chizuru at least that it’s actual feelings as opposed to ulterior motives. a girl who’s over 400 is old enough to decide if she wants to fall in love with some random guy, isn’t she? XD

“this is probably the best show out there this season…”

I disagree. The best show ecchi out this season was Kamen no Maid Guy.
