Minami-ke Okawari #05 — Down the Rabbit Hole
February 3rd, 2008
I expected so much more from you, samurai bear.
Impressions:
Ahhh… Hosaka and your ‘God’ belt buckle. It so fits you. The story was about Kana and Chiaki breaking into a jewelry box and breaking the glass rabbit necklace inside. After attempts to fix it, Kana summoned Fujioka (and eventually others) to find a replacement one. He accidently stumbled on Haruka, and mentioning a rabbit made her want to show it off to her friend.
The bear stuff was really strange and nowhere near as funny as I had been hoping. They basically just threw samurai bear scenes in to cover them watching Chiaki and Kana argue. I am curious why Yuka was standing two inches from the door when knocking, but I guess that kind of braindead behavior is its own punishment. There were also some funky character height inconsistencies while Kana was spinning Haruka around which made Kana look significantly taller than Haruka at a couple points.
i think the lesson that we learned from this episode is that Kana needs a better stable of gofers. It was a better episode than the last couple, but I really had expected the bear samurai to be… well… not lame. They really were thrown in as crappy space filler. At least the part towards the end when Haruka figured out about the rabbit struggle was done pretty well… though they did overdramatize Kana angsting over it after showing her running around like an airplane about forty five seconds prior. There needs to be some sort of middle ground or transition between "I am a poor broken waif in the snow" and "BUZZ BUZZ I AM A JET PLANE!" That’s all.
Preview:
Cold girls (and mentally challenged boys) in snow.
