The Idiot, Tests, and Summoned Beasts #11 — Level Up!

March 17th, 2010

I want this RPG. So badly.

Impressions:

Man, I love the battles in this show. Sure, they’re not all tha well animated or the like, but they’re quick, smart, and we don’t have to hear the characters rant at length about why they’re strong or what they’re fighting for. Hell, the reveal that Yuuji’s been studying lately acing his exams took all of about 5 seconds and they kept going, and that was that. Hell, they barely even relied on Himeji for either of these battles either, using actual strategy that wasn’t telegraphed to hell and back. Kudos, Bakatest. If/when they make an RPG based on this game, I must have it.

There wasn’t really all that much humor this week, but the entire episode was just straight summoned beast battling. The first half against class D, the second against B. The class D battle ended up being quite a bit more interesting in terms of strategy though, which felt a little weird. After all the teacher shuffling, feints and counter feints, and the Yuuji reveal, some suicide bombers and a sneak attack seemed like a little bit of a letdown. Still very good all around, just a little plain compared to the first half. Next week against A should be slick though.

Brief Summary:

War is declared on class D. Both sides have their plans. Once the path is clear between the classes, F will send Himeji in, while D plans to use that opening to assassinate Yuuji. After some sparring and careful movement of the teachers back and forth to give each class their strong subjects, Himeji heads out. The assassins quickly move in, but Yuuji’s score is  on Class A level now from the effort he’s been putting in lately, so the attempt fails and F is victorious.

Yuuji’s not finished yet. The real target is A, but first they need to take out B. However, when they go back to their classroom, they find the place ransacked. Pissed off, the battle begins against B. It goes poorly at the start, but Yoshii/Yuuji trick the F cultists into suicide bombing the path open for B. However, Nemoto’s got Himeji’s love letter and is blackmailing her over it. Yoshii overhears this, and tells Yuuji that they need a new plan that doesn’t involve Himeji. Yuuji accepts that, but now it’s all up to Yoshii. Yoshii heads over to class D and summons his beast and starts punching through the wall, badly injuring his hands in the process. He breaks through and directly into class B. Nemoto and goons are ready for him, but Mutsuri swings in from a window and gets Nemoto from behind before he can react. F wins. Yuuji forces Nemoto into a dress as punishment and they take B’s classroom.

Up on the roof, Yoshii returns Himeji’s letter, but she tears it up and says that she doesn’t need it anymore. She asks Yoshii if she can call him more familiarly. Elsewhere, Shouko and Yuuji affirm that they’re at war now.

  • MisaoFan says:

The eleventh episode Omamori Himara late mailing !?

    • Aroduc says:

So impatient. Bakatest showed up about five minutes before Himari. Caps are uploading now.

  • Honoo says:

Woo hoo, and suddenly we’re back to episode one, technically speaking.

  • Lero says:

    Fabullous classmates are fabullous.

  • Yue says:

Enterbrain has been known to publish doujin games, most notably cute cuddly Flash~driven sprite side~scrollers/beat~em ups.

Dvd sales success does factor sometimes in game development. I want Baka Test in hd~bluray.

  • AGear2Ax says:

So, they put all the manga material in just one episode? I don’t what to think about that.

  • Gin says:

Suicide bombers felt like Prinny, dudes.
Also, cut-outs was very Super Robot Wars style.
    Can’t wait for next week.
They actually somewhat changed it from the manga and novel, so it went pretty nicely.

I’m more than familiar with Yumina. I just got sick of all the painful grinding and how sloooooooooow everything is.

  • Anise Punter says:

So uh, is next week’s episode the finale? I mean we were all expecting 13 episodes of Seitokai no Ichizon and we only got 12, and I’m not sure how they’re going to get 45 more minutes out of this.

Unless 10 of them are Himeji bouncing, which I would not put past them.

  • Xgen says:

this is why i love this show; no stupidly long exposition and generally entertaining with large doses of humor. hopefully there will be at least 26 episodes to this season.

  • X-3 says:

Hah, great episode. Can’t wait for the battle against Class A.
