Hidamari Sketch ×☆☆☆ #08 — Food, Glorious Food

Okay, so perhaps not so glorious.

Impressions:

Despite not really having much of the new girls, this episode was relatively average at best, probably because they kept squeezing on the crab and eggplnt joke stones that they long surpassed getting blood and were down to grinding out bone. Yuno’s little angsty bit over losing her mojo was also not one of the high points of the show. Miyako’s antics were pretty much the only saving grace of the episode. Painting eyes on Yuno’s eyes is an old Archie standby, but hey, it freaks out the easily spooked teacher, so it works for me. The principal had a couple good moments too, but his eggplant rant went on at least 30 seconds past the end of the joke.

Otherwise… meh. I don’t know if I’m just getting tired of the formula, or if the new characters are wearing that thin on me, but I’m really just not enjoying this season as much as the last couple. The art is certainly crisper and a bit nicer, but like the third season of SZS, it feels a lot more like Shaft’s forcing themselves into a formula for every episode these days, which leaves a lot of the episodes feeling very similar. Maybe it’s just me. *shrug* More Yoshinoya in a china dress… or at least any Yoshinoya in a china dress that we hadn’t already seen… could have eased things a bit, but no. Shaft has let me down again.

Preview:

I’ll teach you the electric slide.
