Manageable Modern Magic #09 — Now We Must Kung-Fu Fight!
September 5th, 2009
Well, that was flimsy and half-assed.
Impressions:
Ugh. I can think of worse directed episodes, but not too many that constantly shoved a shrieking girl combating the terrible evil of a cell phone. Koyomi was a pox upon this episode. Every time they cut to her, it was her whining and moaning over some of the most mundane nonsense imaginable while the two supposedly strongest mages in the world were duking it out a few hundred meters away. Which is more interesting? Koyomi forgetting Kaho’s phone number and then whining about it, or stabbings? Gee, I wonder.
Sadly, the fight was pretty lame as well, and really didn’t have any decent drama attached to it until the stabbity stabbing at the very end. All anybody cares about once again, is Yumiko’s staff, and Misa’s just off in her own little plotting world. They didn’t even do a decent job of selling that fight for that matter either. "JJ’s back, leave dealing with him to me… or else." I wouldn’t be surprised if she threw the fight anyway, probably out of laziness. I am curious what exactly happened at the end there however. Teleports usually don’t leave a craters. Then again, she’s alive and well in the preview, so apparently whatever it was couldn’t have hurt that much. I could have also done without JJ and Gary evilly twirling their fingers and saying "Just as planned." Be more stereotypical. Please.
Preview:
Nobody’s been stabbed here, nope nope nope.

This is the same people that did Sola, right? I’m disappointed then. The fights in Sola were so awesome… Modern Magic should have made their magic fights cooler…
