Ragna Crimson #01 — Dr. Fauxtopus

So… he just stands there, but has tentacles? And is a dragon?

This was a double length episode, which is counted as a single episode, and I'm not splitting it up because I already hate it.

Impressions:

Not to skip to the end here, but it takes a full five minutes in between declaring that he will unleash his true power and the fight ending. In that span, he taps two dragons on the snouts and flicks another with his finger. At no point does anybody actually throw a punch, bite someone, or anything whatsoever that required any animation. Someone did transform to his ULTIMATE FORM, with explanation that he is transforming, that his transformation is his ultimate form, and that he is transforming to his ultimate form because he senses that the power level is maximum, which he has only sensed when other power levels are at maximum. I also need to point out that the baddie didn't actually ever attack. Not even once. Knockoff Dr. Octopus there literally just waved his tentacles around himself while a couple people broke swords on his head. He was about to move once, but his spider sense tingled, so no.

And the above is the climax of the episode. It was poorly animated and glacially paced to that point, but that's where the payoff was meant to be. And it fell on its face entirely. Two dudes grunting and dictating to each other how strong their power levels are for five minutes. There are monsters. Dude has a crush on a small girl. Magical prophecy powers and other OP nonsense thanks to his ghost self from the future. It's not Shakespeare and didn't need the double length episode, especially not when the animation and 'action' payoff when the dragons finally show up is going to be so poorly done, animation and direction.
