Mastermind in Shadows #02 — More Murder Fantasies
October 12th, 2022
These Wednesday shows are making me have a higher opinion of Molest Guild.
Impressions:
So… uh… at what point does this change from the standard isekai reincarnation cheat-power power fantasy to a satire or parody in any way, shape, or form? Because so far, it continues to be far closer to the gratuitous garbage side of things like some kind of demented 3%ers power fantasy of massacring all the undeserving scum ruining society. Every now and then there's a minor one-liner, and the animation production is holding up, if you're into superfluous amounts of dismemberment and showers of blood.
The best I can say is that I saw mention of a few of these supposed gags as I was looking up stuff about it, but again, this actual adaptation does not treat them as gags at all. It is playing everything absolutely straight and its focus is entirely on not just the glorification of ultra violence, but a protagonist who is completely overpowered and revels in mocking and slaughtering people while fantasizing about it, cackling madly. And this is meant to be a comedy? Really?

“a protagonist who is completely overpowered and revels in mocking and slaughtering people while fantasizing about it, cackling madly”
Redo of Healer without naughty bits, then?
I agree regarding its tonal dissonance. I suppose the joke is supposed to be he thinks his henchwomen are just deluding themselves they are fighting an Evil Organization he lied to them about instead of common bandits, but really he’s the one deluded. It might work better if they indicated why it is this way, but I guess that’s for future episodes to drag out.
