takt op. Destiny #03 — Breakfast and Exposition

"Oops, we get way less budget because we're not the main characters."

Impressions:

That's a lot more like it. At least it did have some of the great action from the first episode. But at the same time, the new characters feel like a huge waste. I'm sure this won't be the last we see of them, but this epsiode they existed almost entirely to infodump a mountain of exposition, the most important bit of which (that Cosette is supposedly 'dead') should have come as some kind of dramatic reveal, not just spat out over brunch. Heck, it could've been the big end to the episode, because it just kind of peters out after what was essentially a training sequence like a wet fart.

But at least there was some action bookending the episode at both the start and end. Well, more the start than the end. I also can't help but once again note that the monsters they killed were minding their own business in the middle of a forest when people ran in and started randomly shooting up the place. Of the four monster encounters so far, only one of them was instigated by the monsters. Hopefully now that all the introduction nonsense is out of the way, we can get on to traveling through small cities in America, hunting monsters who are actually threatening people in some way.

It seems obvious that the mission is to “fix” Cossette, but I like her better this way. This being based on a gacha game, there’s a good chance she won’t return to normal, since collecting “normal” girls in a battle rpg would be boring.
