Full Metal Alchemist #01 — Obligatory Post

Man, it’s been a hell of freakin’ long day.

The caps are a little wonky because I watched/capped it live, but switched streams during the CM. I know… the nonuniformity is anathema. I’m dying on the inside, believe me. Also, don’t care about raw quality so much as having one less show to watch when I wake up in 8 hours.

Non-Impressions:

There. I have acknowledged its existence. It appears to be sort of off in its own continuity with a water/ice alchemist for this episode as an introduction before flashing back to the start of the story. I don’t remember there being quite so many "Ed is short" jokes in the first run, but they tapered off in the second half thankfully. Anyway, go bother Omni. There are six other Sunday shows, most of which will not be covered by everybody and their dog, so I’ll stick with one of those. It’s not like anything any of us could say would influence anybody on this show one way or the other. I did find the blood spears to be very SHIKIesque and ergo I approve, and I think the ED was rather amusing. Same ol’ FMA. *shrug*

After eight shows (and spending two more hours translating other things), I’m tired of anime for today, feeling grumpy, and in need of a nap. Badly in need of a nap.

      Every episode, sure. But they did it about 10 times in the first five minutes. It was “Here’s some character. Now he’ll make an Ed is short/Al is the older one joke. Here’s another character. Now he’ll make a…” repeat ad nauseum.

    Omg,Ed came from the dead! Damnit. I was hoping for a new, better, cooler main character.Yep,I don’t like Ed or Al. The only reason I watched FMA was for the military.

    The art took a hit. 11:52, the right hand of that guy looks all wrong. 12:25, the major’s missing his gloves after saying the attack won’t harm him. Those are just some examples of the errors in the show. I don’t think I’ve spotted this many in a first episode aside from Kanokon.

    The buildings look like cheap cg. I don’t know if it’s the artistic style, or what not, but it just doesn’t blend well with the character animation. Character animation was also sloppy as fuck. So QUALITY animation coupled with practically an entire cast change are only some of the reasons I’m dropping this.

      Some of art is just horrible in quality compared to v1.0. The lines lack definition in certain areas, and overall the series lost a lot of its dark edginess that originally made it stand out.

      Still, the animation itself was decent quality (particularly the ice), and the OP was worth listening to twice. I guess that earns it another episode.

        I don’t need to watch it frame by frame to eyecatch shitty animation. Half the episode probably has glaring faults. The thing about this is that the op animation was so pretty, it tricked plenty of people into thinking it was quality. Then they fail to realize the buildings look like cg clones, and that the char designs for the most part are sloppy. In short, the animation just fails to set a tone of any sort this first ep. And if giant moving ice figure counts as action, well, hey, whatever floats your boat.

    Seems to be an anime original episode for the start. Makes sense though since there’s no point repeating what the old series already covered.

    I really didn’t care about the animation and I was paying attention to the story and characters interaction.Over all it was a good one to me so i guess that’s all i have to say for now.
