Maria the Virgin #02 — Anal Rape

January 18th, 2015

AKA pissing off the Catholics. And homosexuals. And…

Belated edit: World Break affirmed the direction it would be going in with random nakedness, dressing like prostitutes, both high and low class, and slobbery ‘snake’ tentacles, and no, the yapping chihuahuas didn’t stop either.

Impressions:

With how afraid the first episode was to show even the trace of blood, I find it very weird that this would begin with the owl-girl screwing an entire army, except that there was one priest who was instead having sex with his alter boy and therefore immune to vaginas, so they decided that they need to make a male sex toy too. Except the one they make is heterosexual (and looks 10 years old) so they just toss him to the gay pedophiles of the army to be anally raped. All in the girst half. This was… not the direction that I expected the show to go. Also, since when is some random old lady the expert on the decrees of heaven?

This was significantly better than the first episode, to the point where it’s hard to believe the two episodes are even from the same show. The first half was mainly comical while the second half had some actual direction, conflict, and purpose to both it and setting up more for the future with something a little more in depth than “war, huh, what is it good for?” Its fear of showing any real violence is still getting in the way though. If the villagers actually had started no-quarter killing the soldiers, or the soldiers just gone ahead and wildly stabbed some people while blinded anyway, that would have done a much better job of showing how naive and hypocritical Maria’s worldview is than simply saying bad stuff is always happening somewhere. I doubt they’re particularly interested in delving into a grand moral debate, but if so, then they should probably start truncating the speeches at some point. Or better yet, showing that her intervention was what was putting people in danger in the first place. I expected that’s what they were going for at the start, but apparently people just shrug off and ignore giant monsters round these parts.

Next Episode:

Because she needs another pet apparently.

    >This was significantly better than the first episode

This was just a bottom-of-the-barrel hentai anime script with a few moments of bottom-of-the-barrel “hypocrisy” drama. Hardly an improvement over the first episode, just different.

    • Aroduc says:

Yes, having content and a script certainly is different from not having a content or a script.

      • Hogart says:

I see. I guess we must have watched different episodes, then, because this one was just a continuation of the same content and script of the first episode. It just amplified the “she’s a virgin” and “she’s a hypocrite” messages in ways I found tiresome.

      • kenuran says:

Plus its generally better. Since its not aimless and boring. Probably helps a bit too that the source this is adapted from is actually already finished so there should be a proper ending to the anime. Pretty rare stuff.

    • Xander says:

      Hogart:

That’s such a lie. Hentai would have made the attempted sex scene the whole focus of the episode instead of merely a bad joke. Comedy was the point of the sequence, not trying to get you off.

I think you’re too short-sighted. Perhaps the rest was not interesting for you, since you might hate the whole idea behind the show, but I think “hypocrisy” is only one part of the objections to the way the protagonist does things.

I think your definition of “bottom-of-the-barrel” is probably too wide and covers all sorts of not bad shows.

      • Hogart says:

Call me a liar if you wish, but I stand by my estimation for now. You won’t convince me otherwise with such empty arguments any more than I’ll convince you with my empty arguments. Whether they played it off for comedy or titillation, that didn’t improve the quality of the script to me. If it bothers you that much that I used “bottom of the barrel” then feel free to replace it with “pedestrian”, as that’s closer to how I actually feel about it. It’s not the premise I dislike, it’s the episode.

  • Germanguy says:

Well, with reading the little Manga English releases, i to find it a but to much joking on her Virginity and getting Laid. This Show deserves more the Serious tone, about the “Humanity, Earth Church and Heaven” Line, less of these underwear Jokes

A Witch, that use Magic to force Peace in front of her Eyes

    • Germanguy says:

also, the Answer of Maria’s Questions lies in the Old Testament, when God called the big Flood and killed so many thousands of Lives. Even if they were Sinners at their Time. After he saw what he had done, he remained silent for eternity

8Well, it is so writing the the Old Bible. search for it. Many actions can be explained in the Old testament, the New Testament is the Jesus Arc)

  • Sanjuro says:

I didn’t think the yapping was any worse than normal in World Break. But maybe my yap detector is broken this season thanks for Log Horizon. Tetra the trap had the most annoying voice I think I’ve ever heard. If you continues watching it, I bet you would have dropped it the second you heard her.

    Go insult to Christianity.

  • Mesousa2877 says:

A Venture Bros. OVA aired last night, Aroduc.

    Forgot to remind you that.

    • Aroduc says:

I know. I’m trying my best to not care.

Succeeding mostly. Still trying to think of what to do with M-W this season. Pulled a bunch of games out of my archive and successfully fought the urge to play them too.
