If it was an actual frog, that may have been more interesting.

Apparently my patience with DxD has indeed run out, or maybe I just have less of it in the morning than evenings like the last time it was airing. Either way, I got up to get a muffin a few minutes into the episode after the immensely half-assed fight and had literally zero urge to finish the episode.

Impressions:

…Which shouldn’t be taken as a ringing endorsement of this series either, as having been already fed is probably the only thing that kept me from wandering off here. For one, there was a massive gouge taken out of the budget. The middle in particular was just damned arduous in both lack of animation and just bloody boring content. The frog was bad enough, but then they had to drop the maneki-nekos down, pretend like something was happening, and have them just ramble for about another four straight minutes. This show still lacks any kind of narrative or purpose, even ones that only last the length of the episode before they’re forgotten again. I don’t think that having at least some kind of internal structure to an episode is too much to ask for. Christ. Seinfeld, a show about nothing, usually juggled three narrative threads an episode simultaneously. And it was a full-on comedy. Why is a single one so difficult? Give me a reason to want to know what happens next. Hell. Give me a reason to care about what’s going to happen in the next minute or two of the episode. Please.

At the moment, I’d rather watch either of the two remaining Sunday shows over this one, homoerotic as one may or may not be. That may change shortly once I actually do watch their second episodes since awful episode 2s is an unfortunate trend this season, but I don’t think I’ve got the patience for this one either.
