Muromi #13 — Token Episode
June 29th, 2013
Wow. Was this unusually completely phoned in.
Impressions:
Utterly generic ending, even ditching the comedy entirely for most of the first third to mope around about the future ’cause mermaids don’t understand that or something. Then he gives her a bauble for Christmas, which is not a British sexual euphemism. The second half fit in the hot springs at the last minute because god forbid if any show goes without them. At least it involved dolphin torture, also not a British sexual euphemism. Yada yada, insert song, new year, roll OP, the end. Very, very by the books all around.
Final Thoughts:
It was decent slapstick for the most part. There were a few hiccups here and there and I never warmed to Yeti, despite how frequently and aggressively they tried to shove her down my throat multiple times. It was also one of the better and more consistently animated shows of the season, which worked well with its highly energetic presentation. The short length of episodes also probably helped keep it easily digestable, although probably will also keep it from sticking around in the collective consciousness for more than a week or two. It probably should have stuck to its core strength of Muromi and friends wantonly inflicting harm on random things though instead the occasional branches into other territory since those rarely worked out very well for it.
It’s not a bad thing to watch if you’re in the mood for some zany over the top humor, but that’s about all it’s good for, and occasionally not even that.

Why would they do a hot springs episode when the characters are already basically wearing bikinis the entire time?
