I know who I want to die next!
Impressions:
Good lord, is the Nepal girl annoying. You know what they say about Himalayan girls. I don’t. But I’m sure someone does. She just sticks out like a sore thumb as an utterly ridiculous caricature. While the story’s trying to say "This is so serious, everybody’s banding together because they’ve lost everything and this is all totally important and humanity is on the edge of disaster," here’s this screaming tempermental child throwing tantrums and hissy fits because she was assigned a new commander. In a military unit. How dare they?
Aaaaaand since the episode was split about evenly between an introduction to her and the actual main character of the show… yeah. He didn’t really do a whole lot wrong, but every time she opened her mouth, I wanted to kick her in the teeth. The insert song was also a little… weird. Especially when it devolved towards yelling at the very end. The lesson at the end of "We won because we worked together" also rang a bit hollow since Nepal only lost because she stopped to gloat. At least they continue to actually use the CG instead of relying on it as a crutch. Or maybe it’s just the other two and a half shows I watched today all being fairly dull. The battles at least flow decently, but could still be a whole lot more interesting and really go all out since they’re not exactly hampered by such petty things as having to draw more.
I also chuckled a bit at the black bars over the crazies at the start. Are they being censored or is that supposed to be the director making them totally mysterious and menacing? Either way, I laughed. Not the intent, I’m sure.
