CG vs CG vs CG vs CG OP2

April 7th, 2012

Just checking in to note that yes, this still hasn’t changed. People talking from a distance, CG things pulsating, and when the ‘action’ does happen for its brief couple minutes, it’s CG tentacles molesting a CG plane before CG Lancelot hops on so that he can fly up to Gilgamesh’s CG plane and they can CG at each other. Thrilling. At least a couple of them shut up for a couple minutes. …Until it was time for Tohsaka and Kariya to hold debate team practice on how to best raise children between the two sides of "infected by giant penis worms" or "not." No actual fighting between non-CGs, mind you. Just yelling at each other for worming little girls. Even more thrilling.

I don’t really care if it’s CG or not, as long as it looks good

    • Aroduc says:

I’ll let you know when they reach PS2 era CGI.

      • anon says:

This is better than PS2 era CGI, at least something not Square Enix made, and far better than most anime CGI around there (Tiger and Bunny… anyone.)

Just expecting to anime going with CGI as Hollywood is unrealistic and idiotic.

        • mickey says:

Nice strawman. Since when was anyone comparing the series’ CGI to a mainstream movie’s? Numerous TV shows, such as Breaking Bad, Futurama and Boardwalk Empire do a much better job of using CGI, and in a manner that isn’t nearly as obtrusive.

        • Aroduc says:

We can just compare it to western children’s shows too. Or note the clashing aesthetics. Or the poor direction of trying to pitch immobile pulsating blobs as DOOM. Or that a minute or two of CG planes zipping around without conclusion sandwiched between ten times that much in pointless unrelated chatter is the opposite of exciting.

Whichever way works, really. I really don’t understand why it’s such a contentious statement that ANIMATORS suck with CG modeling while game designers or western shows that work exclusively in it or have much more money to throw around are much MUCH better at it. Not everything can be Pixar or Dreamworks, but that doesn’t mean cost cutting whenever there’s a vehicle on screen by going to old CG models should be lauded either. For this, speed up some Ace Combat gameplay, add a glow efect, and you’re practically there.

It’s Fate/Zero, and you whine about the CG? Feh.

  • The Phantom says:

The best show of the season, and not because it improved since season 1 was boring as hell, is because everything this season is shit.

  • FlameStrike says:

Hm was the CG really that bad? Maybe my eyes are just weird, but I thought it looked just as good if not better than the examples of “good CG” you posted a few entries back.

Oh well, since I have no aversion to CG I can enjoy this a lot more, so more power to me I guess.

To withstand Fate/Zero’s long moments of talking you have to be interested enough in what the characters say/interested in the characters. This varies from person to person. Aroduc who doesn’t care a single bit about any of the characters gets bored by the long monologues and dialogues, this applies to other people not vested in the characters too.
