C74 – Magical Battle Arena Redux Ver. Ruru, Nowel, and Naga

No clue why some people are having issues installing the patch. Everything went completely dandy for me. If you’re curious about the move in the video above where Ruru just sort of cowers, it’s a melee counter, but she just looks sad when nobody attacks her. After playing through Ruru’s story mode to unlock Nowel, I have to say that the battle royale on the last stage was pretty amazing. Since friendly fire hurts you (which I learned the hard way when Nanoha Starlight Breaker’d a Gadget Drone my Sakura was fighting), I hung back and just watched all the lasers flying through the air. I’m pretty sure I saw a Kirara Nova Bomb the Fate clone before Nanoha shot straight down to finishit off. Of course, then final-boss-permanent Overdrive Nowel showed up and killed everybody but me in a single rain of death. Thank goodness for friendly fire after all.

    For a doujin game, that really is quite awesome. I don’t play these kinds of games, but I’ve really enjoyed reading your posts about this one, and seeing the youtubes.

    Somehow it just seems right that Naga’s most fearsome attack should include the laugh. But it looked like there was a framerate breakup while she was doing that.

    Having Naga summon a golem was also pretty cool — as was her getting stomped by it. Completely in character.

    I’d love to hear more about this one. Have we now seen a complete list of the characters?

    Yeah, FRAPS had a minor meltdown. It was a problem on my end, not the game’s. All you missed was her shooting a freeze arrow and then teleporting over.

    And I’m pretty sure we’ve seen everybody except Kukkuri, who is supposed to be downloadable at some future. Kirara, Sarara, Nanoha, Fate, Sakura, Ruru, Noyel, Lina, and Naga. Hopefully they’ll add a few more in the coming months, rebalance things a little bit (Sakura’s Fiery is massively overpowered and any attack that causes an AoE explosion can interrupt Supers, which I’m pretty sure is not intended behavior), and tighten the netplay a bit.

    Hmm. Aroduc, maybe you should redownload the patch, since I got Kukuri with the patch. And I’m really impatient to get Nowel. This is going to be a long journey…

    And Sarara can be useful if you use her carefully. She isn’t really all that slow (well, compared to Kirara, and I’ll just blame Stage 3 for that), and her SA is very useful as a counterattack, as you can use it while she’s down (not sure about her getting hit), and I love using that during my SZ (25 combo hit :D). And the ring stays even when she’s hit, unless it’s a special. But, eh, everyone has their opinion.

    Huh. So it did. I swear she wasn’t there last night. Maybe I was just tired.

    I agree with Sakura being overpowered a bit. However, her (A) special isn’t that good so it kind of balances out. She is really fast and its quite difficult to take her down on lvl 5. Fate is still my favorite character tho.

    I was wondering about that girl (Kukkuri) when I saw her in one of the earlier vids when you were flipping through the opponent choices.

    Ruru (the one with the cone shaped twintails) seemed to have a ridiculously strong hit-everything-you-can-see attack, where she ended up surrounded by a whole bunch of those magical cones, and all of them let rip at once in every direction. I bet she’s really popular with teammates when she does that in team play…

    Ruru’s super drill is actually pretty gimpy compared to most others. It’s about the same area of effect as most of the explosive ones, but centered around her instead of a targetted beam and almost no vertical spread at all. It does have the advantage of detonating whatever drills are already formed if interrupted though.

    I love that dogfight. And the carefree attitude that they all have about decimating everybody in the melee.

    Repeating, just in case you missed the other one.

    Well, I haven’t used Fate yet, but for all the special moves, they’re activated using SA, SZ, and SX (SX being a charged but better shield). It might also be CC (super quick dash, and C+directional key is just a quick dash), and Fate’s dash might be quicker than most characters’. And, for quick reference, I’ll also add that you can do SC to go into SC Mode (as me and my friends like to call it) and do either CSA or CSZ, the latter only when you are on your last health bar (and, in Nanoha’s case, be higher than 1/4 of the health bar, or you’ll kill yourself).

    i need something like fates sonic move that she can perform,
    yesterday was suffering assualts from all direction using nanoha…
    sakura is one fake character especially her SA super it rams through my divine buster even though i cast before her…

    If you are talking about sonic move as in warping behind someone’s back, you do that by pushing “up or down arrow” + x, but you got to do it fast or it won’t work. (also you got to be in close range of target). Try it in practice mode to get the hang of it, it took me around 20 tries to master it.

    yeah about the super quick dash… i wanna know about it i tried cc but i couldn’t make it. sometimes i did it but i’m not sure wat button. that move is extremely important for fate who is a melee attacker rather than range. Mind to teach me?

    ok… another question in trainign ti seems like i can use SCZ at any range but in true battle i couldn’t execute SCZ at all does it have a range? or maybe a condition?

    And, only for Nanoha (and Lulu?), CSZ will take 1/4 of your health bar, so for anyone who is using those characters, be warned.
