Squirtle!

Impressions:

Alright, I’m starting to see the appeal of Tsukiumi now. It’s not so much, her, as that wherever she goes, chaos follows in her wake. I don’t like how short and truncated her appearance and fight against Kusano/Hibiki and Hikari was at all though. That just seemed weird and silly. However, after that, she was nothing but entertaining. She has the ability to reduce Kusano to possessive gutteral loli whimpering with a few words and Musubi’s actually not to far above Kusano in general maturity. I really do wish they had made Tsukiumi a little more resistant to a few kind words after the whole "maverick sekirei that hates ashikabis" setup and schtick that they tried to pull, but eh… I’ll survive.

After the breakneck pace of the first half, it seemed like things slowed down into comedyville back for the second, which, like I said, was still rather entertaining, but as we reach the halfway point of the show, I’d kind of like the overall plot to be forming up a little better. We’ve had bits and pieces of a couple different evilish looking Sekirei as well as the jackass ashikabi roaming around, but Seo’s been more of a threat to anybody than them as far as Minato’s concerned. I realize that there’s a lot of manga to go yet, but unless they’re planning on a surprise second season (which I’d be all for), I’d really like to actually have some kind of plot and impetus moving things forward here that isn’t just "gotta catch ’em all!" Don’t get me wrong, things are still moving along very quickly compared to most shows and I’m enjoying it, I’d just like to feel like this is actually leading somewhere and will have a conclusion at some point, even if it is unique to the anime (with the reminder that I haven’t really done more than peruse the first few chapters or so of the manga).

Brief Summary:

Picking up where we left off, Tsukiumi attacks Minato. Kusano defends him, but Minato calls her off. After accusing him of being some kind of crazy pervert, Tsukiumi attacks again, knocking Minato back. Seo’s group watches from the roof. Tsukiumi charges up a huge blast to destroy him, but her own nature takes over and she narrowly misses him. Minato tells her to be his sekirei, but she struggles against it. Seo’s had enough though, and says that if she won’t be Minato’s, then she’ll belong to him. She gets the same "ashikabi pulse" from Seo as she does Minato.

Seo wings Hibiki and Hikari and has them attack. Minato protects Tsukiumi, and her counter knocks Seo over when Hibiki and Hikari dodge it. Seo’s annoyed now that she let his pay run off and slides down the ruins and grabs her. She thinks this is all wrong as he holds her down and prepares to kiss her. Minato yells at him to stop because she’s his sekirei. Tsukumi stares at him in wonder. Seo shrugs and relents… then gets fried by his sekirei for the hassle and embarassment he put them through. Tsukiumi hops down and after yelling at him for being wishy washy after calling her his, she kisses him, winging herself. Then she realizes that Kusano is also his sekirei (and competition!) before Musubi hops down and introduces herself as his as well. Minato gets Hydro Pumped.

Back at the apartment, Tsukiumi introduces herself to Miya as Minato’s wife, prompting Kusano to hiss and growl and Musubi to say that she’s his wife too. Miya knows all about the sekirei though, so shrugs and laughs all around. Matsu eventually wanders in and Tsukiumi is ready to mete out more punishment on Minato, but Miya smacks them all. Kagari also wanders by, but Tsukiumi is pretty gormless. Matsu follows him and he has a mild seizure from his body fighting against its nature.

Yukari has the sekirei situation sort of explained to her by DEATH-BISHI, and then fantasizes about him in the shower. He comes out, and she tells him crap can wait until morning.

The expected dinner feeding antics occur and Tsukiumi meets Uzume as well, who says that she’s a rival and that her ashikabi isn’t here. MIGHT BE IMPORTANT FOR LATER. After dinner, Musubi and Tsukiumi share a bath while Kusano chills with Minato on the porch. She asks him who Minato likes, and he tells her that he likes all of them. She kisses him on the cheek and says that she loves him. Musubi and Tsukiumi’s spidey senses go haywire.

  • Man0warr says:

Well the first 20-25 chapters are pretty much him collecting pokemon, now we get to the first actual story arc, and since the anime is only 12 episodes, it will probably end right after that arc. (Which is really the only place they could end a first season without messing with the story.)

  • Aroduc says:

*shrug* It’d just be nice if this were going somewhere, or there was a villain harassing them or something driving things instead of him just ticking off a new girl for his collection each week. Things happen every episode but 5 to 6 was about the only one with any kind of cliffhanger or “stay tuned to find out what happens next week!” feel to it at all.

  • kiryuu says:

Considering the plot in the manga is still shaping up and we’re only through 2 maybe 3 stages at this point? I’ll take what I get. Hurray for black Sekirei!!

  • Ronin8317 says:

The manga took FIVE years before the first sign of ‘plot’ appears, so don’t hold your hopes up.

  • totali says:

The ending will be at the bridge.

    HYRDO PUMP!

  • […] I choose you! Man, this episode was awesome. Having the fights and effects animated from their manga […]

  • sage says:

    Jumpluff. Where.

    ;_;

  • sage says:

The ending will be at the bridge.

That would be awesome. That’s the part where Jumpluff really shines.

  • jeffng9 says:

no thats not awesome… that the part where jumpluff is winged. if it ends there that means u won’t be seeing ur charizard getting winged sage.

  • Ray P. says:

Ahaha, every time Tsukiumi talks I hear Kana/Iku from Minima-ke and Toshokan Sensou. Good girl.

Why is the VA cast for this show so damn IMPRESSIVE. I’d like to shake the hand of whoever pulled that off.

  • Westlo says:

They better have the naked apron scene in episode 12 :\

  • Midonin says:

Tsukiumi’s really more of a Blastoise. Blastoise is #9, has the power of water, and has some big guns.

  • shadow says:

Other episode with many fanservice, sure are all happy
some know what episodes begin to fight

  • MFreezer says:

I agree with Midonin on the Blastoise comment.

    We’ll probably see
Musubi get KO’d and come back stronger
and I hope Minato
wings Kazehana
before the 13 episodes end.
