#ZombieHunt #01 — Ignorance is Confusing
October 3rd, 2026
Smart not to teach people how to make IEDs.
Impressions:
I'm having trouble wrapping my head around this setting. Or more specifically, the characters. They understand automobiles and selfies, but are baffled by the concept of a lighter. They're seasoned zombie hunters exploring ruined cities, but have never encountered a store or warehouse and are baffled that such things exist. It's a decade and a half since the apocalypse, and literally everything in this store is completely pristine and still shelved in its original undecayed packaging with nary a rat or bug in sight, to say nothing of no corpses or blood anywhere. It's needlessly disorienting to have characters look at a spoon and go "what is this crazy thing, a dinglehopper?"
I feel like they could've done a much better job with the zombies for that matter. They're a bit too comedic and don't feel like a real threat, so there's not a lot of tension. Comedy and horror have a long pairing and this is no Sean of the Dead or Zom100, which did a much better job combining the horror and comedy aspects, as did School Live and High School of the Dead, though the latter two were much more horror focused.
It's… fine. I hate to be so noncommittal, and I'm certainly planning on giving it at least another episode or two, and considering the rest of the season, can't imagine I won't be sticking with it the whole way. Other than the random bits of inexplicable ignorance, the characters are a bunch of good natured himbos, even the girls, which is welcome enough, but other than NOT being obnoxious, it's just… there. Doing generic zombie things, and I can't help but think to Zom100's very identical premise and infinitely stronger first episode.
