Welsh & Shedar #01 — Giant Moms

October 14th, 2026

Template template template template.

Sorry, this slipped under my radar, though the broadcast is a bit weird. This is one of the two French-Japan collabs. The other doesn't begin until the 17th. I think as far as most English stuff is concerned, it's going up as double episodes starting in November, and has no simulcast at all. But the studio has also announced that it'll be putting up all its shows on Youtube, subtitled in English, with no date or schedule. Tokyo MX is treating it as a regular weekly series (began on the 2nd), as well as Abema (albeit 5 days later than the Tokyo MX broadcast).

Impressions:

All that said about its unusual broadcast situation, it ends up being a pretty generic shounen adventure setup. Not unsurprising since it's the spiritual successor to Wakfu, but also not terribly interesting. As the title (and OP) would imply, it does seem pretty split between the two narratives, but both are fairly lacking. There's magic gems. People want them. Two boys having giant moms beloved by all around them. Probably both moms are soon to be fridged, or maybe not since they both feature prominently in the OP which has about a billion characters and is full of Dragonball magic powers which are utterly nonexistent in the actual episode. Or the next one for that matter.

The giant moms are more of main characters than they are, especially knowing that the cooking one fist-fights a dragon in the second episode. Angst-boy in particular just gets smacked with a gem and spends the rest of the episode having fever dreams about dragon pets. Cooking-boy at least… uh… cooks, with an irritating amount of detail, as much of anime tends to have compared to the actual fight scene. And then his giant mom comes in and overhand SLAMS a pie crust onto the table. As you do. Apparently.

I'll at least cover the second episode, tomorrow (Thursdays are a wasteland aside from Iceblade, which is no prize catch), just because it has a seven foot scullery maid wrasslin' a dragon, but aside from a moment here and there which are absurdly over-animated, this… exists. Nothing particularly notable, either good or ill. Aside from all the giant moms, which is a thing that I'm aware some people are into. Also, catgirls, extra furry.
