Dandivine #01 — Buy Our Toys!
October 7th, 2026
I hoped so desperately for any kind of subversion.
Impressions:
There's worse ways to start than a bunch of cosplay fetishists sitting in ruins, worshipping a gaping hole in the sky. There aren't too many worse ways to follow that up by switching instead to an corporation meeting where an abusive CEO screams at and strangles his board. From there, it's off to Billy Everyteen, and his sidekick, Screamy Guy. I call him that because our introduction to him is him running track while screaming at the top of his lungs. You know, like people normally do. Back to Billy Everyteen though, being a boring sack of nothing, who will somehow be the protagonist of the show. At least, I think. He doesn't pilot the robot. His uncle does. He's just… there. Hanging out. His dad is… after being strangled by his father/boss (yay, nepotism), getting drunk and trying to grope children. …Cool. Am I supposed to not be rooting for the cosplay girls to kill every one of these jagoffs and explore more ancient ruins?
No surprise twists here, so not like Bravern, nor featuring a bunch of unhinged cannibal-curious weirdos like Back Arrow. No shock value or actual story like Cross Ange or Aldnoah Zero. And action? Pfft. Even Vandread's year 2000 CGI has it beat. We're diving deep for this one. Monster appears, roars, is immune to the first attack so they need to do a special pose attack instead, with lots of dude going "RAAAAAAGH" and yelling "LAAASSSSEEERRRRR SLAAAAAASSSSSH" or whatever. Cue girly pop ED with the cosplay antagonists as idols. Brought to you by the marketing department, and only the marketing department. We got toys and singles to sell.
