The Elusive Samurai #13 — Horsing Around
July 17th, 2026
I'd say I remember this having more serious character designs, but on second thought, probably not.
Impressions:
Why is this angry lady lecturing me? Why is this clacking invoking primal terror of school marms? What are we even doing here? Well, it's good to know and see that CloverWorks continues to be a deeply weird studio, which makes them far more interesting, even if frequently unhinged. I haven't forgotten that bit in the first season where a dude's ear grew teeth and began whispering into another dude's bulging eye. And it's still pulling that, so the nightmare fuel will continue.
This episode was a mixed bag though. The first half was just an introduction back to the protagonist crew. Not surprising, but very filler shenanigans. The second half wasan introduction to apparently the new antagonist group. Which is weird because we never really dispatched most of the first one. I'm not certain the main baddie even realizes the good guys exist. But also, this set includes a horse dude, a surfer, and, uh… some kind of vampire or banshee? I'd say it feels like we lost the thread a little, but then I remember THAT GODDAMNED TALKING EAR. Just a very setup episode, and I always would rather shows just get into it. I'm not going to remember any of these idiots in a month when they actually show up in the story anyway.
