Branch of Reincarnation #03 — The Job Squad
April 16th, 2026
At least we're not spending a lot of time on any of these clowns.
Impressions:
Certainly the least unhinged episode yet, which I suppose makes it the least interesting. Though still plenty unhinged as it's episode 3 and they're already attempting to raid the supposed final boss's fortress with zero preparation, training arcs, or fanfare even. Though also bizarre that they need an entire meeting where the whole crew shows up to learn about the big bads that they've been fighting, and then half of them evaporate for the actual mission to be replaced by the most obvious jobber squad imaginable. The jobber squad with an especially bizarre array of powers that runs the gamut between "I get every power" to "can hover in place." Some of you got kind of screwed here, and I'm not sure that starting out by doming the ones with the hover power properly gets the ball rolling for setting the enemy threat level. Plus, there's zero chance I remember even a fraction of these characters. There were more characters introduced (and killed) this episode than in every single nerd x popular girl show this season, combined.
If you want to see this kind of thing done well, I'd point to either Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere for the montage of competent weirdos all flexing their powers yet accomplishing absolutely nothing, or Ga-Rei Zero for those same weirdos getting shockingly massacred. But since this is the third episode and these weirdos appeared out of nowhere to fight in place of the actual characters, their fates are well sealed before they even take the stage, which undermines it a lot. As does, again, the lack of a budget. But I think that ship has long since sailed.
