Promise of Wizard #01 — Not a Monocle in Sight

January 6th, 2025

Pathetic.

I'll get to the other two shows in a few hours. I have… so many work e-mails to catch up on, and they're both almost certainly awful anyway, being a trip-and-grope romcom and an unabashed cheat power harem show.

Impressions:

Well, this was atrocious in literally every single way, so that's kind of refreshing and makes it very easy to kick around. The animation especially is entirely theoretical. The protagonist is a complete non-entity who spends the entire thing blankly staring before making the bold political choice to go with the pretty boys who use "we" instead of the old dude who uses the word "me" despite both of them insisting that they need to blindly follow and obey them. That's also pretty much her only piece of dialogue that isn't something along the lines of "Wha?" or "Huh?" But one sics their goons on the other, and so magic is needed to thwart them. But not the kind of magic that does anything. The magic that makes it so that nothing happens at all. And the spell's cast off screen. No, you can't see it. But it definitely happened, see how nothing's happening? Which we're explaining in great detail?

I struggle to think of any positives for this show. None of the pretty boys even has a monocle. What kind of shoddy dude harem is this? If I had to pick out something, it'd probably be that unlike most of the premises where the muggles are being racist against power havers, it accidentally does genuinely show that the 'evil teenager handsome wizards' are both capricious and abusive with using their powers to lord it over the others, which almost makes me want to side with the baddies despite their own explicitly stated "we must defeat all teenagers and cement the gerontocracy for the power of old people" schtick. And then they fly away on their brooms.
