Impressions:

It's always a little weird to me to see one of these things that airs at around 11pm but I cannot imagine was ever made with anything but an audience under 12. But who knows what goes on in the dark hearts of anime scheduling decisions, so here we are, with a Pokemon knockoff full of screaming teenagers doing schtick at a million gags per second, all loud noises, overreactions, and extremely marketing friendly cutesy monsters. No time for long explanations about the exact inner workings of the game world mechanics at least, because that would get in the way of the jangling keys and evil army of koalas in speedos overrunning the countryside.

It's just… impossible to take it seriously or even engage with it on whatever level you're meant to. Picking on it for being too childish in its story, setting, or characters seems unfair, but it's not something that would be appreciated by kid and adult alike either. It relies on far too much dumb humor with a shotgun approach for that. It's a Pokemon knockoff some twenty years after the fact,which is kind of weird enough on its own. Not as repugnant as another cheat power knockoff, but not a stealth Deca-Dence or something where it was hiding some major twist either.
