Mechanical Arms #09 — Unearned Victories
November 28th, 2024
And lame antagonists.
Impressions:
At least nobody ran off just to change their mind and turn around for the umpteenth time. But I can't say this was better. The first half was reminiscent of a lot of finales of stuff like Nanoha or Symphogear where they try to make a lot of hay about there being a really large invulnerable big boss even while it just sits there, sort of pulsating, but not actually doing much of anything. Yeah, guys. This All-Spark is such a threat the way it's… defending itself when punched? I feel like I missed the part where it is the world devouring all-consumer or something, let alone actually showing it. And then it's defeated by the power of… well, let's try to hit it one more time, but together instead of separately. Not feeling like this victory was too earned here.
Then we give way to the lore dump, and like all story elements in this show, it needed another pass, or three. The baddie group turns out to have been good guys and cream puffs, controlled (willingly!) by the one evil mind control thingy. Yes, the group known for murdering and enslaving the robo-buddies. They're good now. And they had a grand plan all along to… develop a super anti-worm weapon in the worm's face which is just… good at killing her? Again, I feel like I completely missed something here and this victory comes off no effort. But it turns out the true evil is the original hero arm dude, who's now an evil zombie or something. Which means even more lore dump next week, but we didn't actually reach the shocking betrayal bit either. Unless pointing a stick at the protagonist is meant to be that. If it is, good lord. Aim slightly higher, please.
