Shut-in Vampire Princess #01 — Doggish Days
October 7th, 2023
Furries vs Vampires.
There's like seven new premieres today, so I'll be taking frequent breaks. Including one immediately for pancakes.
Impressions:
I can't say I'm surprised too much by this intro episode's humor being pretty obnoxious since that's exactly the impression I got of the source. I did have some hope that it might skip or cruise past it because the most recent PV leaned hard into the vampire Dragon Ball side. It at least didn't hammer most jokes into the ground. She accidentally murdered one dude, and that was enough for everybody. The screaming sexual assault queen only had about twenty seconds of cartoon show and tell. Etc. Not great, but at least nothing overstayed its welcome and it quickly moved on. I don't know what to say about the rapping dude having a seizure in the background of many shots. It was… certainly something.
That's probably its greatest strength, that it was… not exactly story driven, but at least didn't dwell in any one scene too long, or screw anything up too hard. Being I guess baseline okay is better than a lot of shows. But on the other hand, the few times they did stop to obnoxiously explain the setting were all the stupidest. For example, this endless war is because they have a war playground where everybody is immortal, so the whole thing is just for giggles. Possibly better than Dog Days where everybody either turned to puffballs or naked, but probably not the franchise you want to be taking your setting cues from.
