Harley Quinn #45 — Il Bagno

How exactly did we go from six days ago to this episode?

Impressions:

Like Gordon, there's only so much Bane in an episode that I feel like I can take, and I think he works a lot better when he's at least slightly serious, like when he was running the prison camp. It's like King Shark. The juxtaposition of the casual ultra-violence with the whiny, insecure nerd can be funny on occasion, but when you tilt things entirely towards just a large insecure oblivious idiot, it feels more mean spirited to have him being beaten up by Generic Old Italian Woman and mocked by children. Also, there was an entire special about Bane hooking up with most of downton Gotham, literally, but also some random S&M lady, so the whole crush on Nora thing is just weird and I can't even remember at this point how it began.

Speaking of Nora, she made up the other half of the episode, though somehow Snart was the one who got most of the better one-liners. I really had to do my utmost to suppress science knowledge. You understand how tides work, right? And that the moon is not permanently at a fixed point above any given city? This is not how orbits work! Anyway, Lex continues this season's trend of the villains being far too corny compared to how they were in the first couple seasons, and squabbling with Nora of all people exacerbates that. She's also a character that's okay in moderation as a sex-crazed lunatic, but a whole (half) episode of her ranting at complete random or making puerile and gross sex remarks wears thin. Maybe I'm just An Old. But at least this was the least out-of-character Ivy was all season… because she basically wasn't in the episode.

S4 feels off, mostly, and the right out of spring 2021 Snyder joker is proof of that.
