NieR Automata v1.1a #11-12 — Enter the Matrix

Hackerman.

Impressions:

Not to repeat myself, but my opinion from yesterday remains largely the same; any investment I felt evaporated in the five month break, and all this comes off as incredibly rushed. Adam spent his entire time post-appearance sitting at a table, reading a book, so isn't much of an antagonist, especially not when transforming straight to a giant goblin like some kind of corny Power Rangers monster of the week. And even then, all he did was stomp around, throwing a tantrum, until we pull an orbital cannon out of our asses to deal with that.

But all was According To Plan, which tragically infected 9S, except whoops, as soon as he died, he was fine and even the consequences we just explained are not happening, because there's a completely different set of evil twins to introduce who will also cackle in the background, probably also sitting at a table for the next five episodes until turning into a giant evil flower or dragon. How much would this have been improved if they were more present and we didn't jump wildly from vignette to vignette and didn't spawn a giant goblin at the end to not actually directly fight? Not even sure I could say.

Adam doesn´t turn into a Kaiju and instead used the fried robots as a shield that hovers around him. The resistance also didn´t help in the fight as the player is the hero. The rest is the same in the game. Rout 1+2 of 3 are now covered. The preview for cour 2 is also almost shot for shot. 9S and 2A are its protagonists. Kinda funny how many twin units the game has.

The only missing main plot beats so far were 2 gaint robot fights. A ship and 2 big ones like in the pilot but that was pure spectacle with no effect on the story.
