Impressions:

Technically the first new show of the season, pre-airing a week ahead (for the entire season) on Abema, and I was on the fence whether I should even acknowledge its existence, what with it being a spinoff of Love Live set in magical land and presumably clipped from the usual idol tournament stupidity. The OP is also fast paced and promises magical guns, if nothing else. I was feeling magnanimous this morning, so sure, let's humor this thing that began life as an April Fool's joke but they decided to turn into an actual show.

But it is still just Love Live. There's still a godawful CGI idol sequence. They're all still braindead imbeciles who have no thoughts in their head about Doing Their Best. There is no story nor character development whatsoever. They are just a little insecure about Doing Their Best, but thanks to the encouragement of their friends and large talking dogs, they find the motivation to Do Their Best. In this case, an idol sequence to turn a stick into a slightly different, apparently more magical stick. Boy, was that ever a challenge faced and overcome. On the first attempt. With zero hitches. And everybody clapped. I guess it's important to revisit this banality every now and then and remind yourself that yes, it is indeed still as trite as you remember. But now with a talking dog and even more sunbeams to make sure that everybody understands the title.
