The Magical Revolution #01 — Inappropriate Equippables

December 10th, 2022

Let her wear the wolf's head, you crumb bum.

This would be the first of winter's new shows, and doesn't start airing until January. Its full title is: "The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Noblewoman." Yeah, it's one of those. And unfortunately, there's… so goddamned many of them next season.

Impressions:

That said, there are certainly worse ways to begin a show than to have a little girl dropkick a wolf, whip out a pair of daggers and gleefully slaughter her way through the pack, then scamper home covered in blood, wearing one's head like a hat. It does avoid the gravest sins of its ilk. There's no long list of RPG rules, she just seems like a crazy bloodlusted idiot, the entire reincarnation thing is half-assedly thrown in for no reason and can easily be ignored or outright forgotten by blanking out about ten seconds of the show, etc. On the other hand, even the wolf killing is only competently animated at best, and the rest of the episode is far less than that, nor does her side have any real story to it.

Which brings us to the side of the title that does have a plotline, and it's pretty obnoxious. You know all the boy-harem things about a 'villainess' being undeservedly spurned by jackasses? At the halfway point of the episode, things take a hard right turn into that, with the two titular characters coming together when one crashes into the dumping scene and carries her off in a fit of pique to spite her brother for being a horse's ass. Like the wolf bit at the start, not a bad scene, and the blonde is kind of a fun character when she's actually doing some thing, but that still leaves a pretty tiresome and banal middle 18 minutes of the episode.

Did you say ‘little girls and dropkicks’ in the same sentence?

Watched the first episode on the official airing… no status screens, no deadpan main character and can’t warp reality in episode one… to me this is already above of most isekai
