Chains Aw Man #11 — My Eye Is In Here

Why are we suddenly all the way back to beating up zombies?

Impressions:

Oh boy. Another episode that was almost entirely setup. What a way to end this season. Not even more of the training arc. Apparently that finished off-screen somewhere. So now, 15 minutes of standing rock still, droning in a monotone, waiting to go to the place and do the thing, at which point, we don't even focus on the main characters, but instead decide to introduce a whole slate of new ones. To do what? To kill some zombies in a basement. Why? Well, they're zombies. So why not? At least it was animated, even if they still had to have someone monologuing over the entire thing, explaining that the person who looks like an angel is the angel devil, and the person who looks like a shark is the shark devil. Thanks. I'm not sure I could've figured that out.

It isn't until twenty one damn minutes into the episode that an ostensible protagonist gets to do bloody anything, and 11 episodes in is a little late for a supposed main character to be having their first fight, a sentiment we'll be revisiting if Power even manages to get one before this season's over. Even then, it lasts a whole minute and is just indistinct slashing of tentacles long hands. Sure, as far as raw animation goes, that's certainly on display, but again and always, there is more to a good action scene than "throw a lot of frames at it." He is just cutting sausages until he's not, with zero impact or effect on either part until suddenly, there is, and even then, maybe only because the episode was over. At the very least, show him actually using his new fuuuuttttuuurrrrreee power in some way, because this was indistinct from the completely powerless girl last episode also slashing up generic jelly-filled sausage tubes.

I don’t understand how fights so well animated can be so boring.
