Kenshin Blader #10 — Mummy Land Saga

March 19th, 2022

Yeah, that's what this show needed. Another idol episode.

Impressions:

I'll say the same thing that I say for all these 'comedy' idol episodes. There's ample space to parody or make fun of the industry. Throwing a rotting corpse up on stage with some make-up, a frilly dress, and blinding stage lights for them to groan and shamble around on stage while people cheer is the absolute minimum, but even Zombie Land Saga quicky fled from that to indulge in how much hard work it is to be a mass-produced pop star, and how great and beloved and how there are no downsides whatsoever. It's just girls trying their bestest and being adored by everybody for their doing their bestest!

So we have just another goddamned generic idol episode, complete with training montage. No jokes about it, except "a mummy wants to be an idol." That's it. That's the whole gag around which we're basing an entire twenty minute episode. I guess at least we didn't get to a CGI concert, but that's because this show doesn't even have the budget for it, not for clear lack of desire. What is the point of this episode? What is the humor supposed to be? Does the idol industry seriously need a toungue washing every ten goddamned minutes to stay afloat?

This may be the worst episode yet. The show was always light on comedy, but this was abysmal.

I almost want to write one of those long boring diatribes that certain other users on here write but replacing gacha games with idols.

Referring to me? Granted, the most popular show in Japan last year (UmaMusu s2) was literally a gacha/idol hybrid that other corporations are now eager to copy.

I know corporate/capitalism talk is really boring and repetitive, but it’s disturbing how anime is heading towards that MCU-fication (that leads to homogenization) that’s plaguing Hollywood for some time now.
