Ranking of Kings #16 — The Upsides to Torturing and Murdering Children

February 3rd, 2022

This episode was… not great.

Impressions:

Uh, wow. For all the crazy-ass stupidity in the writing of this show, I'm not sure that I had "an entire flashback episode about racists torturing and murdering children is sometimes okay" on my bingo card. But it was justified, see, because they said that the other king is even more evil. How much more evil? Well, more evil than racists gleefully cackling about murdering children. Gotcha there. He must be super duper really really really bad then if our side is that evil and the other side is worse. This… This is really the message we're conveying? The ends justify the means, even when it comes to siding with racists who want nothing more than to torture and murder children?

And yes, this was the entire goddamned episode. The backstory of the green Ginyuu Force member whose sole purpose in this story so far has been to job to Bojji to show his new Mystic Eyes of Death Perception, which I might add also apparently extends to energy. Yeah, he can control lightning too. Somehow. The entire episode was flashbacks and dudes having a remember about some stupid throwaway ogre and that atrocities are okay as long as they're the lesser evil, just take our word that we're doing it for a good reason as we slit this child's throat. Still waiting for that Chekhov's Gun to go off about the one immortal guy being supposedly being Bojji's greatest foe, but I'm pretty sure that's just going to be because he's immortal and instead needs a hug or splashed with holy magic.
