Tokyo’s 24th Ward #04 — Drugs are Bad

January 26th, 2022

One toke turns you into a frothing berserker lunatic.

Impressions:

Society's still functioning pretty well after two massive disasters due to government ineptitude, a terrorist clown with a weather gun, and by the end of this episode, well, I'm not sure how to describe grafitti suddenly coming to life as a fiery alien avatar in the sky. Which is to say that this was mostly an episode about how drugs are bad. And like all anime drugs, this isn't something like marijuana, but the insidious Drug D, a scourge on Shanty Town Shanti Town, possibly created by another random teenager ex member of the gang we never really got introduced to, who also has super powers and lives with his grandma where he may also be keeping a few dozen kilos of C4 for bombing a local yacht.

You might notice I haven't mentioned a single existing character yet, and that's because they were all completely superfluous to the episode. I guess it was mainly about Red, but all he really did was skateboard through a balcony window to kickflip a druggie. Blue chased the dead dude's daughter around Shanti Town, immediately losing her so she could befriend the teenage druglord over their love of inspiring grafitti before both just unceremoniously wandered off again, which is why the episode was probably meant to be about the grafitti guy, but again, all he really did was skateboard a dude in the face and have covered the entire slum in totally rad art, bro. Because his gang of miscreants may be anarchist punks, but drugs? They're not evil. They hate drugs as much as anybody. Even more, in fact! …I've definitely lost the thread of this episode, if it even had one in the first place. At least next week involves bombing the corrupt rich. Now that's something we can all get behind. Wait, we're trying to protect the yacht? Boo.
